Tebow was pretty decent last year and this preseason.

No reason to keep him on the bench and halt his development.

Except DOLLADOLLABILLSYALL

LMAO What, did they kick you off Orangemane again so you have to troll here now?

whoman69 09-05-2011 05:16 PM

If I understand the cap correctly, the Brocos are charged at the higher number anyway

Okie_Apparition 09-05-2011 05:31 PM

I thought they only drafted him anyway for the jersey sales

So, this was the dilemma, pay Orton millions and millions to not play AND double Tebow's contract, or keep Tebow on the bench and not hitting escalators while getting something for the 6 million you owe Orton no matter what.

Trade a 2nd and a 3rd and a 4th to use a 1st on a guy that you bench so his salary doesn't escalate. Sounds almost as stoopid as taking Jamarcus at #1....

It's in the same ballpark right now.

...or maybe Tebow looked like crap in the preseason. Occam's Razor leads me to believe that's most likely the case.

Yes, but losing an additional $11m of cap space is not the same thing as losing an additional $11m of cash.

This one is my favorite...
"Well ya... we all know this was the truth that were paying attention. Tebow sure did well statistically in the preseason for being so awful.

Funny or the worst part is fans bought into the media created Tebow is terrible talk... It's pretty sad what people will believe without seeing things for or with their own eyes.

I do a little thing called the eye test. I see what my eyeball tell me.. My eyeballs tell me Tebow isn't near as far off or as bad as some of you want to pretend... He will make a great qb next year. for who I am not sure.. I hope it's the broncos. I think the broncos go 10-6 worst case 8-8 this year... the media says they are 4-12 to 5-11, I just don't see it... Anyway more people should try the eyeball test then believing what people write that they don't know and don't know their motive...
"

Donk fan has to be the dumbest fan base in the NFL...outside of Raider Nation.

Well if Tebow was better than Orton, I believe Tebow would start.

But he's not....not even close from what I've heard.

No one really can say, because there was never a fair competition:

Facts:

1. Tebow showed great potential at the end of last season.

2. Orton looked like shit.

3. The Broncos barely let Tebow play any meaningful snaps this preseason, including none with the starters.

4. Tebow played pretty well in those snaps.

The excuse for Orton "winning" the starting job is that he outperformed Tebow in training camp.

I've literally never heard of a legit "open competition" with one of the participants getting garbage for preseason snaps.

This is all about DOLLADOLLABILLSYALL

I'll say it: As a Chiefs fan I would be more frightened of Tebow.

This. Also, the only time that Tebow got any snaps in training camp with the 1s was when Orton missed practice for the birth of his daughter. There never was any competition.

Orton started out the year on fire, but they weren't winning because of their defense. Hence Tebow comes in as QBotF. I think when people are saying he did horrible, they are saying that his mechanics are still poor even in his second year in the league.

Mile High Mania 09-05-2011 07:38 PM

Anyone that thinks Tebow is on the bench only due to $ is insane.

Don't think you understand it correctly. Bonuses are charged against the cap under their likelihood to be earned. That bonus is not likely to be earned and is only charged at a small percentage. If it's not earned at all it is credited back to the team the following season.

DTLB58 09-05-2011 07:41 PM

No biggie, Players are sat all the time because of incentives in contracts at the end of the season. Plus, Orton is just plain and simply the better player.

If they really didn't want to PAY him they wouldn't have just paid him the roster bonus he just got and cut him instead.
