We were told Monday night to be ready to evacuate due to a fire about a mile north of us. They evacuated up to the main road 2 blocks away. Had the car loaded just in case. Took everything back in later that night, things were under control. Closest I have been to this (so far, God I hate saying that!).

Bastrop is the other side of Austin from me but that is a terrible situation. Last I heard, 600+ homes have been lost, 34,000 acres burned. They are saying it is about 15% containted. Horrible situation and it is not gettin any better.

Austin recorded a trace of rain for the entire month of August.

In all honesty, it's amazing that the wildfires held off as long as they did. It's been a tinderbox here for months.

The sad part is that they are reporting that a lot of the fires have been determined to be intentionally set. (Not sure how you determine that, but that's the reports.)

My mom is the treasurer of the local volunteer fire department. There was a guy that they kicked off the department for being a nut and having various life problems. He proceeded to set 3 fires intentionally.

He is in jail now.

You need a moat. Even if it's dry, you still got a dirt ditch to stop a fire. Start digging!

God bless Texas.

Sad situation, that is for sure.

My youngest daughter's significant other has a ranch down there, and has been needing rain since the first of June. In July he was trying to buy hay out of Kansas to feed his cattle. To my knowledge, he has only had a 1/4 inch of rain since the first of June.

We need to develop technology to redirect weather. Vermont would have been very happy to send some to Texas.

Teedubya thinks that the government already does this, but only to cause disasters and suffering.

HAARP FTW!

Texas is burning because you touch yourself, senator...

In all seriousness, good luck man. I hope you guys get lucky and the fires let up. Lumpy's part cherokee, I'll have her do her "Texas Rain Dance" tonight for you.

Film at 11.

I'd say that you should just check the websites of some of the Austin news channels.

We have had a high pressure system over the area for the last few months. Obviously it is being held there intentially to punish Texas and Rick Perry. :p
