-   -   NFL Draft Matt Barkley To Announce 2012 NFL Draft Decision At 4 P.M. Press Conference (https://chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=254086)

If he goes back because he wants to win a BCS champ and maybe a Heisman, good for him. The NFL isn't going anywhere.

HOwever if he gets hurt or goes full Leinhart, Sucks for him, maybe good for us.

He goes back has a bad year, falls down draft boards ala Rodgers Chiefs grab him at 25 and boom. Luck swings our way.

I suppose it could work either way. If you are staying, you get to leave the press conference having left your college fan base excited and patting you on the back.

If you announce you are going pro, it's probably a tool for Lane Kiffin to use in recruiting to say "Hey look, you too could be the next USC QB announcing your intention to go pro!"...

Bet he stays for another year.

Definitely need him to come out to help our chances with RG3.

Not worried though. He's coming out.

Kalil has already announced he's going. There was talk about the two of them making a joint decision, but that's gone by the wayside.

FWIW, chatter in agent community is that Matt Barkley staying in school. These guys don't know for sure what he will announce, but they...

Are expecting to hear him say he is staying at USC.

He must really want that Heisman.

Mr. Laz 12-22-2011 12:53 PM

why have a press conference to announce you're staying?

attention whore or leaving ...

DJ's left nut 12-22-2011 12:56 PM

sounds like he's staying.

If so, the cost of a 1st round QB just skyrocketed, possibly to the 'cost prohibitive' stage.

Luck and RGIII are guaranteed Top 5 picks now.

Someone is going to draft Jones higher than they should. Hopefully that's not us.

Micjones 12-22-2011 01:34 PM

If he stays I guess we'll have to look at Jones, Foles or Tannehill.

Chiefs Pantalones 12-22-2011 01:36 PM

McShay has all three QBs going in the top 10. If Barkley does indeed stay we're gonna have to shell out more to move up to get one of the top two. Unlikely.

Mr. Laz 12-22-2011 01:43 PM

I don't know how anyone can say RGIII is a top 5 pick ........... yet.

could it happen? Hell yes, i could see the top 4 picks having 3 QB's considering the rookie salary cap.

1. Colts - Luck
2. Washington/Trade - RGIII
3. Rams - Kalil or Blackmon
4. Jags/Trade - Barkley

could see Barkley going before RGIII too

But if the top teams are asking too much in trade them the QB's could fall and guys like Blackmon and Claiborne could sneak up.

More than likely, we'll need to start looking at non-QB prospects and hope the 2013 draft has a strong QB crop. Unless there is a slam dunk you can't pass on this guy QB sitting there for us in round 1, the Chiefs are probably going to stick with either Cassel or Orton, and express faith in Stanzi being the future...

Sounds about right. Orton is the starter and Cassel and Stanzi fight it for the #2 position. We draft the finsihing touches for our D a RB and some O line.
