I would so be into that, especially if it was a job I could "leave" there. Sadly, about any job I work requires I take it home with me and then some.

I worked 4x12 when I lived in KC, back in the day. I loved it and tried to take my lunch 7 to 8 hours into the shift. As long as you stay busy and avoid watching a clock, it's pretty smooth.

I work 6x14 right now. Sucks ass but only a few more days to go.

We hired a guy to take 40% of my duties so I can work harder in operations and private investigations. The god damned guy got trained, worked a week, (which increased my duties because I had to explain everything to him) the took a fricken vacation for 1.5 weeks.

Ass

I work 3x10 and one 6, with a raise in my hourly pay so that I make as much as the 4x10 guys. It's pretty nice. Only downside is that I work from 0500 to 1530. That is really ****ing early in the morning to start work.

Man is it worth it. LMAO

You think a 10 hour work day is very long?

I used to do that. Loved it. I remember at the time thinking I'd love to to work two 20's with an 8 hour rest period. Then California changed its labor laws around so I work 3x10+6. I still get a three day weekend every week.

I miss having any kind of consistent schedule at times.

Buehler445 08-20-2012 05:29 PM

I don't miss watching the clock. I work close to twice as many hours, but it's way better.

I just took my lunch 9 hours into my shift, but I don't think I could do this every day.

Split your breaks up. You get two paid breaks and an unpaid lunch. Go to break about every 2.5 hours. Then plan out the things that you want to get done during each segment of the day. If you get bored, pile stuff on and pretend to be way behind.

lewdog 08-20-2012 05:33 PM

I work 5x8 but would much rather do 4x10 although that isn't an option at this point.

KcMizzou 08-20-2012 05:34 PM

I used to work three 12's. (got the other four hours paid free, but in exchange you maxed out at two weeks vacation) I worked that until I had enough time in to get a third week, then bid a normal Monday through Friday shift.

Mr. Laz 08-20-2012 05:51 PM

used to work 5x12

it sucked

i found saving all your breaks for the last 5 hours works best

Dunit35 08-20-2012 05:57 PM

I usually take my lunch no earlier than 8 hours into my shift, if I get one. If I have a lot of reports, I skip it.

Of course, I also drive around town all shift, messing with white trash. I can do as much as I want or as little as I want. Usually do as much as possible to keep me busy.

THIS!

They offered me that schedule back in 2008. My boss was sure I wouldn't last a week. I'll never go back to 5x8 unless they make me. I save so much vacation it's ridiculous. Plus having every Friday off is just fantastic.

Make it work if you can get it. The mornings were not as bad as the afternoons, but if you stick it out it's totally worth it.
