Theres also a wider format than 2:35:1 that you see with alot of older classic films from the 50s and 60s.

Heres a wiki page that compares some of the images

There were a ton of "early adopter" DVDs from like 1997-2000 that were Non-Anamorphic.

That page doesn't link anywhere... But yes, there are several in between also, which is why I stated in my first post that there are several, but the most common are 1.85:1 and 2.35:1. I believe the wider one you're talking about is 2.39:1.

Yes. Dammit.

:cuss:

I was an early adopter. I actually bought my first DVD (Metropolis) before I had a DVD player. I will replace the old ones as I find newer releases if they're cheap. Otherwise I just deal.

Yep, still do. I had one that I paid for a long time ago, but it broke. About the same time, a dentist I know was getting rid of his because it was broken. He said I could have it. A $5 part later, I had a fancy LD player that would flip discs on its own!

I bring mine out of the closet every now and then to watch the original, unmolested Star Wars trilogy. I've also got The Godfather Epic on LD (that's the one where Coppola edited the first two into chronological order).

Then he'd have curtains on the non-2.35:1 films, which would basically just reverse all the options.

Unless you have electronic masking on the screen, hehe.

It seems like 1.66:1 is the only widescreen resolution that will completely fill the screen of a 16:9 TV. Even 1.85:1 will have small black bars at the top and bottom.
