But I think it would have been a better film if it had focused on the characters and never gotten into robot/body snatcher territory. They had a great, compelling comedic story going...and they ****ed it all up with some robots. It was still a fun film after that, but nowhere near as compelling and poignant.

In all seriousness, I have to disagree here.
If it didn't go completely off the wall, the whole theme of the movie would have been about the King's problems. A master manipulator, alcoholic druggie who will lie and steal from anyone or do basically anything to get a fix. That wouldn't have had quite the appeal to me...with the "blanks" added to the story all the guys had to work together and it took the focus off the depressing life of Gary and turned it back into a fun time.
When they finally decided to keep on with the pub crawl, and they all walked in a straight line with no emotion, looking straight ahead to the next pub, that was classic.
Either way, I laughed my ass off harder than any movie I've ever seen in a movie theater, and there were 20 people there for the late show.
I wonder if it was so high on rotten tomatoes because only the hardcore SoTD fans came out to see it.
