Good on you. I always though you had to have a PHd in accounting to enter the actuarial profession.

What all does it take to be an actuary?

Being smart at math essentially. Obviously there is a lot more to it than simply math (accounting, economics, financial skills), but you could go take a preliminary exam right now if you wanted. There are no specific degree or college education requirements either. If you choose, you can even study the materials on your own to take the exams. Once you pass the preliminary exams you can begin working and continue to take more exams, of which there are 13 in total.

I wonder how many astronomers we have (#36) who aren't also university professors (#14).

My job is #40, though elements of it are also at 18, 19, 20, 31, and 48.

MOhillbilly 11-13-2013 05:30 PM

My job didn't make the list but it did make the # 9 spot on the most dangerous list.

htismaqe 11-13-2013 05:42 PM

My specific job isn't listed but two aspects of my job show up in the top 10.

Well the fact that garbage collector is on there and maintenance tech isn't tells me I need to consider another line of work.

Saulbadguy 11-13-2013 06:15 PM

Sub question...

Would you recommend your job to someone young who was set out to do it?
