Haven't had them, but the honey wheat crust is pretty freaking spectacular.

If you are considering the Plaza downtown, then you owe it to yourself to go to Johnny Jo's.

Live right by there great place, owner is very friendly, but the only complaints are its small, expensive, weird hours.

I will be traveling to KC to visit my sister and am wondering where the best pizza is in downtown KC. I will be there for a week and plan on going to Strouds, Arthur Bryants, Gates, Mannys and Oklahoma Joes. I want to get pizza/italian one of these days I am there. Any suggestions?

Substitute Jack's Stack for Gates.

It's definitely small. It seems to be the same price point as Minsky's for me. I think it comes down to the type of pizza you prefer, if you like NY style fold over, then Johnny Jo's is the best, imo.

Really though, this is Kansas City, you're not going to get wow'd anywhere you go for pizza.

Garozzo's for Italian...Minsky's for pizza...both River Market area.

Tim's Pizza. Hole in the wall pay cash place. Tastes a lot like FunHouse pizza did. Haven't been in a few years but always liked it.

Tims is good. It's also roughly 25 miles from downtown. Might as well just stop at Funhouse on 40 if you're coming from downtown.

Go to Grinders. Get the Bengal Tiger pizza.

I prefer the one in Raytown, which I believe is closer.

Ever since the one in Raymore closed, I have only been to the one in Raytown. I'm not super fond of the one in LS even though one of my friend's brothers owns it. They moved recently to the old Pappis location so I guess maybe I should try it at the new spot.

Tims and Funhouse Pizza on 40 high are the best in KC IMO. Funhouse in Lees Summit is decent, but not quite up to snuff as those two.

I grew up in a neighborhood very close to Pappi's Pizza and my first job was there. I hated it when Frank and Patty sold it. The quality really went to shit.

I recently tried the new Funhouse there and it was pretty decent. Still not as good as the Raytown location though.

EDIT: I just realized that I was making pizzas at Pappi's 37 years ago. ****, I'm old.

Also, the guy that started Tim's Pizza worked at Pappi's when I was there.

This pie starts with a rich green sauce topped with tandori chicken, real crab meat, and the unique flavor of hearts of palm and cilantro.
