Signing all the free agents will give your team such an infusion of talent. You'd think more teams would try. |

The question is whether the player is really worth the money. |
I think drafting a corner #1 makes the most sense for this team in the long term.

Our corners were amazing until Hali and Houston got hurt....which gave opposing quarterbacks all day to find the open receiver, which in turn exposed our horrendous safety play and lack of our coaching staffs ability to make in game adjustments.
The corners weren't the problem. |

Then they just threw the ball too quickly for our rush to get there. our defense didn't get much better when Hali and Houston came back Corners? Safeties? Pass rushers tired? Coaching? |
We definitely need to invest at corner soon. It's possible we cut both Flowers and Smith next offseason.
|
as they should be as that will free up a lot of well needed money

Agreed.
You can land a starter-caliber corner in Round 3 or even 4, if you're smart and/or lucky. Dennard is really the only corner I like in the 1st, but it's unlikely he'll fall. If we trade down to the top of the 2nd, I'd look at Gilbert. Losing Flowers and Smith next offseason means we have Marcus Cooper and one open slot (how fast will Ron Parker come along, one wonders...). It's either spend a midrounder on CB this year or burn a 1st or 2nd on it next year. |
Some sites are saying that Verrett could drop as far as the 4th round due to his size. I think that's not going to happen, farthest he will drop is the 2nd, IMO, because some team will fall in love with his tape and pull the trigger. However, if he is there in the 3rd, he's a no-brainer.
