I'm fairly certain it does. I ran it on my 54G for a few years until it burned out. I think it even did things like restricting hours of access for certain devices but I might be imagining that.

I replaced it with an Airport Extreme and haven't looked back.

Yeah, a lot of firmwares can do access restrictions by device (the stock Netgear can do that).

Not a lot of them do top talkers without enabling netflow or something similar, which actually requires an external server for data repository.

Damnit I give up. I set my router to disallow all traffic from midnight to 4pm. Woke up and zero activity. It is now 5pm and and 1gb gone. WTF

Why would you give up before you've even started to solve the problem? :thumb:

Change the WPA2 PSK, reboot the router, and start reconnecting devices one by one.

It's your only option at this point unless you want to do one of the other more technical solutions here.

Or you could just continue to watch your bandwidth disappear...

Saulbadguy 03-28-2014 04:29 PM

Where are you getting the bandwidth activity from?

Thats what I can't figure out. I can't nail this down per device without turning everything off and doing them all one at a time for an hour or so. I'm about ready to confiscate every ones mobile device for a day and see what happens.

If you are referring to my internet provider it is Cox. But my router confirms their information daily so I don't think its a problem on their end.

I've done all of that other than the one by one option. Not looking forward to that as the entire family will whine all day.

What I was asking was...is Cox showing 1GB of usage between 4 and 5 PM today, or your router, or both?

Technically neither does that. The only reason I knew it was between 4 and 5 today is because I shut the internet down all day while I slept.

My router gives me up to date bandwith info for the day. I can't compare it to cox until tomorrow when they release my daily stats for today. But they have matched all week.

There is no way facebook is the culprit. Yes, I know that was a joke.
