I'm in the market for a new HVAC system. Trying to coax current system through this summer, but new unit is inevitable. Guy we use gave us a quote for ~$5K. He uses Goodman, which as this thread states, has both positive and negative reviews online. I'm in the KC area, curious to hear if anyone else has experience buying a new unit?

The installer is more important than the brand.

I just bought a new furnace and ac unit last year. The old one was 1/2 ton and had a v coil. The new one is 1/4 ton with an N coil and it kicks ass and has drastically lowered my electric bill. It's a carrier.

So you had a 6,000 btu unit and just bought a 3,000 btu unit.........I am guessing your place is about a 12x12 that is well insulated.

This is true in a lot of ways. There is also the differences in quality of parts such as motors, capacitors, solid state boards, etc. Not to mention thinner insulation and metal in the cabinets that are just louder. Goodman is a cheap unit for a reason.
