I believe a Honda Accord can be had for a bit less. Consistently on CD's best list for fun driving dynamics, fit and finish, and presumed reliability. I don't think they look too bad either.

I have a Ford Fusion. If you're over 6' tall, watch your head getting in and out. Decent ride, 30 MPG on the highway (2012 model year). However, if I get another in the the next few years, I'll probably go to a Ford Taurus or a Lincoln MKS, used and low mileage. If I'm going to drive 45 miles one way to work, I want a smooth ride. I don't need to feel every contour in the road.

Subaru may be a lesbian car there in Texas but Subarus are very common here in the land of rednecks where it actually snows (not so much re: lesbians). Skiers and snowboarders in particular like them.
