A great QB makes everyone's lives easier, you can actually spend a little bit less on the offense if you have a great QB and can use that savings on the defense because a great QB compensates on the offense. This is a huge economic reality in today's NFL. The apparent disinterest the Chiefs have in drafting in a high round and developing a QB in the past 30+ years is alarming, and it is not surprising they have not even been to let alone win a Superbowl in that time frame.
Disappointing. |
We were the closest under Vermeil and Marty, but just because they had their shortcomings doesn't mean they're responsible for our lack of SB trophies. Perhaps you could make the argument that they're two of the biggest reasons why we don't have any playoff wins in 20 years, but not Super Bowls.
If I had to name the biggest culprit, I blame poorly constructed teams built by GMs and coaches with a lack of testicles and too much trust in their philosophies and personnel. That covers the Vermeil and Marty teams with glaring weaknesses, but also the organization's unwillingness to try to put in our own real ****ing QB. Also, the people who sucked at their jobs weren't fired quickly enough, which includes players and coaches alike. And for that, you can probably blame Lamar Hunt for being too loyal, which trickled down in the organization from his leadership. Clark is a bit less like his father, but he's kind of clueless. |

Incomplete poll is incomplete.
Owner doesn't want it bad enough. |

Vermeil probably had us the closest we have been. An offense that could easily hang 40 on anyone. If he had stayed a little bit longer who knows what could have happened. |

Chiefs don't want to draft a quarterback because they are scared to death of failure. All they see in their heads is the 80s when they tired it twice. They don't want that again, they just want to be nice and safe around 8-8 at least to keep butts in the seats plain and simple.

Luck as a CONCEPT exists, and mathematical chance exists, but one person, or entity having more inherent "luck" than others? Nope~ |

Roaf and Shields would have retired, our defense would continue to struggle (perhaps even moreso than it did), and Trent Green would become feeble and unable to properly run the offense. Only thing that Vermeil would have done better is manage Larry Johnson in such a way that would get him more effective ways of carrying the ball, so that the weapon he was in the second half of 2005 would continue through 2006 and 2007. In any case, still no playoff win. |
