I can see us using Murray as a box safety kinda like what we're doing with Fleming. He's a tough SOB with athleticism to cover.

Interesting you mention this, because I noticed every corner we drafted is a really good tackler. I'm thinking we use more corners than safeties this year in our sub packages.

Russell and Gaines will battle it out at camp, my bet is Russell ends up winning.

I love the way Gaines plays, but he's injury prone and these guys we drafted are all very good.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't he only had the one ACL injury? Not sure if that means he's "injury prone" ala Commings. Ideally he's able to step back in and be fine.

The dude was a pass break-up machine in college and looked pretty good so far in the league.

He had a concussion too his rookie year, and battled some injuries in college, but I agree, while healthy he's the nickel. Most experienced corner we have.

Who starts at corner?

I hope they don't PS White. Another team would steal him pretty quick.

Yup. He's got a little hip tightness but is relatively smooth. He needs to quit this grabbing shit BC it got him flagged too many times at Minnesota. Vs Iowa he Locked a WR's arm and got a deserved PI.
I like Murray as a CB, but he'd be great as a SS/flexible CB IMO.

Gaines is our best slot guy by far and Parker is also solid there. Nelson had a 6.80 3 cone and showed solid transitional movement there. Those are me 3 slot guys with Russell as a backup option in case of injury.

Love having the depth though.

It looks like Murray is replacing Abdullah from what I saw. Arrowhead pride made that analogy, which makes sense.

KeiVarae Russell>>Sean Smith
Eric Murray>>Husain Abdullah
DJ White>>Marcus Cooper

Yeah, I see Russel and Smith's replacement and Murray as Abdullah's replacement.

I really like the little bit I've seen out of the Tre Jones kid we picked up. I'm really hoping he sticks as well. Constantly spying the QB looking for picks. Reminds me a lot of Peters with how he's always tracking the QB and jumps routes.

True training camp battle, best guys play.

Chief Roundup 05-02-2016 11:33 AM

Peters
Gaines
Nelson
Russell

There are variables depending on health and training camp.

Maybe they plan on using the kid from Minnesota more in a hybrid role, but what does it say about nelson that they just poured so many resources into the corner spot?

Especially a year after taking him in the 3rd round

I don't think it says anything if they plan on using more corners than safeties in our sub packages like I expect.

Every corner we drafted is a great tackler and could make the transition to safety if need be.

We're losing Smith, Cooper and Flemming (S) at corner, and we drafted 3 to replace them. Two were on day 3.

ThaVirus 05-02-2016 11:40 AM

Lots of inexperience here.

This season could get rough..

That would go against what they've done up to this point, in terms of safeties in subs.

From my POV, if they wanted safeties they should have taken safeties instead of potential conversion guys. They did take them late though so I doubt they're planning on counting on many of them to do much this year.

I disagree. We end up having a lot of safeties in man coverage in our sub packages. I'd rather have a corner (that can tackle) there than a safety that isn't as comfortable in man coverage. It's not like we're asking them to play centerfield or in a SS/LB hybrid role.
