:D True- I don't think I would do a lot of backwoods trails yet- which I love to do-skiing fast through the woods is blast. I am sure all the back bowls are closed now due to avalanche danger.

Interestingly, relatively few skiing injuries happen when skiers are actually IN the trees. It's people bombing open runs, losing control, and flying off the trail into a tree that is dangerous.

That's how I do it

Our district has had one snow day in 16 years. 5 for cold and one late start.

I live in NE Washington near the Canadian border so we get a fair amount of snow. My kids were in the district for 14 years and my wife works for the elementary. In that time, we haven't had any snow days, though there were three days cancelled because of ice (the buses couldn't get up into the higher elevation routes). Just this week, though, the elementary was out for two days because a pipe froze and broke and flooded a couple of classrooms.

We get a lot of late starts though because of the mountains. The buses have to wait for the plows.

GUNNISON COUNTY, Colo. — Gunnison Valley Schools closed Monday for the first time since 1970 because of the extreme amount of snow that is continuing to accumulate.

Western State Colorado University in Gunnison also closed its doors.

Roughly 6 feet of snow have fallen in the past seven days in Crested Butte. And another 30 inches of snow could fall by Thursday morning.

The Crested Butte ski resort closed early on Monday out of concern for guests and employees.

“Wet and heavy snowfall combined with increasing winds has led to the closure,” officials said on Twitter.

That much snow would shut our state down for a year, these stupid people do not know how to handle, remove,or drive on snow.

We get a dusting, less than an inch and they shut school down!
