He did? Wow, I didn't know that. I'm not surprised but I hadn't heard.

I always laugh when Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith will get into little fights on TNT and when Kenny raises his voice Charles will say to him, "Just because you yell doesn't mean you're right, Stephen A. Smith."

He went on record later saying that he in fact, did not drop the n-bomb. So yeah, its cool and he's still working. Funny enough, its not the first time.

But Don Imus called some chicks nappy headed hoes, and the old boy is out on his ass. Good times.

Get over the past and let it go.

If ESPN doesn't fire this guy it will be setting another precident that needs to be brought out. If it isn't ok for a black person to say these things it should be ok for a white person to say these same type of things.

BTW, I agree with your human race take.

There is a lot of money in continuing to fan the flames of racism. Those that benefit are not going to stop.

Not only do I believe they won't fire him, I believe we will see more of him now that he did that. That's the nature of the beast. Bet we we are stuck with more of the Whitless wonder as well.

Chinese are right up there on the racist list. They might even be on top. The difference with them is more of a dedication in advancing their race as opposed to dogging out another. Because of that it gets a lot less attention and you would have to be in the right demographics to experience it.

ESPN suspends Parker over RGIII 'black' comments

ESPN has reportedly suspended Rob Parker, who Thursday questioned Robert Griffin III's blackness.

"Is he a brother, or is he a cornball brother?" Parker asked on ESPN's "First Take."
“He’s black, he kind of does his thing, but he’s not really down with the cause; he’s not one of us,” Parker said. “He’s kind of black, but he’s not really the kind of guy you want to hang out with 'cause he’s off to something else.”

Parker apparently questioned Griffin's race because the Washington Redskins' star is engaged to a white woman and is rumored to be a Republican.

Parker later called his critics “uneducated” and “silly.”

Really?!? Parker spouts off a bunch of crap but it's the critics that are uneducated and silly?

Parker find an anti-freeze fire and go die in it.

Sannyasi 12-14-2012 12:33 PM

Its a little unfair I think to make sweeping generalizations like "black people are the real racists" when the three other black people on First Take all disagreed with Rob in the same segment that he said this shit. The fact that Rob Parker is racist shouldn't mean that all black people are racist.

I think rg3 is about as black as Sly James. They are both darker on the outside than they are on the inside. Some people look at gays and lesbians and see women trapped inside mens bodies, and men trapped inside womens bodies. Some people can look at black man and see a white man trapped inside. What about Eminem? A black man in a white mans body? Right or wrong being African American has as much to do with cultural views, mannerisms, and associations as it has to do with skin color. Intelligence and being well spoken doesn't automatically get your black card revoked hence Obama. But when you are only interested in white women that tells us alot about who is inside that black skin, and how they might not identify or have certain reservations about black women and black people as a whole.

That is wrong in so many ways. How many people that claim to be African-Americans have never stepped foot in Africa? How many of those that have never stepped foot in Africa had anyone in the past 4 generations in their family that have lived in Africa? I would be so bold as to say not a single one of them. They are just regular Americans that MIGHT have roots in Africa. It seems logical that after a few generations the family is no longer tied to Africa but only to America.

I DID NOT say REAL racist. I said the most racist. I meant that as in anymore. At least it is that way for the town that I live in and the ones that I visit the most. It appears to me that way because of what I hear lots of others say when out in public, ie overhearing other negative connitations that catches my attention. Things that I see. More and More white younger generations have been dressing like and take on other attributes that in the past were only seen by the black youth.
Which in some ways I don't like. But I realize this is for the betterment of us all for I think this helps to bring us closer over the generations to eventually reduce racism. I would like to say eliminate but that will never happen. We are all just HUMANS after all.

Damn man I tried reading this 3 times and still can't decode wtf you're trying to relay. Eminem wants to be black in the same way that a transgender person wants a Dick or a set of tits.....wtf is on your mind?

I hope this guy does get fired for stupidity......does anyone know what the "cause" is that he's not supporting? Is the cause to make sure that every African American has a big body Benz, a shark tank, dog kennels, and an assortment of platinum, gold, and iced out grilles?

I think RG3 is a blast to watch play football. I think he is an amazing talent and seems to be authentic and an outstanding young man on and off the field. I don't have a problem with him talking like an educated intelligent human being or deciding not to have a shoulda lean.......there are plenty of those in the NFL that either pretend or actually live the thug life and we don't need anymore. I just can't believe someone finds this to be a character flaw, but this was on "First Take" so we shouldn't be surprised.

This type of discourse only creates further division on what has universally been one of the most complex issues in this nation. Can we all just be united as a single human race?

Rugby Thompson 12-15-2012 03:06 AM

Everyone on First Take is a racist. It's entertainment though, you can't deny that. Sooner or later, something even worse is going to happen on that show, I like it because it's one of the rare shows left on TV where you feel like someone is going to blow up and say something stupid and you know the producers are telling them to say it in they're ears. Stephen A, Skip, Parker, they're all puppets.

Dylan 12-15-2012 02:47 PM

Essentially, Rob Parker said if you were a "real black person" and "down with the cause," you would not marry a white woman or vote Republican.

I am glad to see ESPN is dealing with serious backlash against Parker, who accused Robert Griffin III of being a "cornball brother" who is not black enough.

I do not know who looks worse: ESPN or Rob Parker. ESPN’s 'First Take' producers approved Parker's comments before the show. Parker was just too dumb to know when he crossed over the line.

Nevertheless, ESPN’s 'First Take' producers are responsible for replaying Parker's comments throughout the day. It’s a very condescending, reductive line ESPN chooses to walk. Although, par for the course for an episode of 'First Take.'

I am surprised a show known to 'Embrace Debate' would ignore the controversy on Friday.

Nothing wrong with that, but he shouldn't have brought it up because he doesn't know RGIII. That's what made it inappropriate.

So having a financially-awarding job, planning to marry the woman that you love regardless of race, and not wanting to be defined by the color of your skin is "assimilating to dominant culture?" Do you realize how ****ing stupid that sounds?

It can be perceived that way. Apparently Rob Parker thinks so. I don't think the issue is necessarily any one of those things, but its the fact that he apparently lacks oppositional traits--besides the braids, I guess.

Too bad Rob Parker is the antithesis of everything Martin Luther King Jr. fought and died for in 1968.

Mr. King Jr. had left us with "I Have A Dream" speech – One of the greatest and most memorable moments in the history of American oratory.

Excerpt: I Have a Dream
Martin Luther King Jr. August 28, 1963

I say to you today, my friends, even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American Dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident; thal all men are created equal".

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today....

Yes I'm sure Dr. King would have loved for a white person to get to use this part of his speech every time he or she felt it convenient to turn a blind eye to race.

Well, there is something wrong with that. Using the term, 'cornbread' and really even raising the question at indicates that RGIII would be doing something wrong by assimilating. The only way you shouldn't be bothered is if you think black people should be derided, ridiculed, or have negative words like cornbread associated with them for voting Republican or marrying a white person.
I guess if you're closed minded about what it should mean to be black or white things like that would be ok. I don't know any other reason why it would be.
The motivation of the question by Parker wasn't anything positive. It was intended to reflect negatively on RGIII.

But to go a bit further, I also don't like it because it just seems so arbitrary. Ok, so he has braids in his hair and that makes him 'blacker' somehow? What if he had dreads? Would he be even more black? Would he be 'more black' for liking fried chicken and playing basketball? How about driving a Cadillac?

Does a Hispanic person not liking rice and beans make them 'less Hispanic'?

And to highlight the fact that he has a white fiance? That was his worst move, in my opinion. First of all, it basically makes it seem like you're against interracial dating/marriage, and secondly you sound like a complete idiot for commenting on someone else's feelings. Who gives a shit if he's gold and she's silver? If they love each other that should be all that matters..

Like I said, I understand what the guy is saying because I've seen that general line of thought in action before; but trying to grasp that type of mindset is tough because its so damn stupid. Be yourself; you don't have to be defined by some predetermined racial constructs.

It reminds me of the Dr. Seuss quote: "Today you are you. That's truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you"

Proof that you can be a minority race and still be as big a racist bigot as a white male Klan member.

It can be perceived that way. Apparently Rob Parker thinks so. I don't think the issue is necessarily any one of those things, but its the fact that he apparently lacks oppositional traits--besides the braids, I guess.

Yet so many Blacks voted for the honky Obama and like Tiger Woods too now right??

I always knew there was a 'cause'. Do we have any cornball brotha's here that can explain it to us?

I can't stand it when people refer to blacks as African-American. I don't know why this term has been accepted as the politically correct way to refer to someone's skin tone. The majority of blacks in America are not from Africa.

IMO if you are going to refer to someone as their skin color, at least call them "browns".... because nobody is "black" either. Granted, I am not White on the color palette.

ESPN fires Rob Parker http://wp.me/p14QSB-6SM5

Rob Parker, the commentator who created controversy when he questioned whether Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is a “cornball brother” because he has a white fiancee, has been fired by ESPN.

“Rob Parker’s contract expired at year end. Evaluating our needs and his work, including his recent RGIII comments, we decided not to renew,” an ESPN spokesman said in a written statement.

ESPN can spin this as simply a decision not to renew his contract, rather than a firing, but the reality is that ESPN specifically stated on December 20 that Parker had been suspended for 30 days, and as of December 20, ESPN was expecting Parker back at the end of his 30-day suspension. (He made the comments on December 13, so a 30-day suspension from that date would have ended on January 12.)

So why did Parker’s discipline change from a 30-day suspension to termination? ESPN isn’t saying, but it may be that the network was unhappy with a recent interview Parker gave in which he said that ESPN knew what he was going to say on the air before he said it. In that interview, Parker also seemed to backtrack on his previous apology, complaining that people took his “cornball brother” statement out of context.

Parker has long been known for drawing attention to himself by stirring up controversy, and it’s unsurprising that he eventually took it too far and got himself fired. But ESPN is hardly blameless in all this: Parker made his comments on ESPN First Take, a show that celebrates provocation, and at first ESPN’s producers were so pleased with Parker’s comments about Griffin that the network re-aired the comments on Best of First Take. It was only later, after ESPN was criticized for airing the comments, that the network apologized.

And now, much later, ESPN has finally done what many viewers said it should have done from the beginning, and fired Parker.

He's an idiot. He went right back to the RGIII stuff. It was obvious he learned nothing.

You can tell where Rob Parker was on the totem pole.

He gets fired for "Cornball brotha."
