I thought the season started slow, but the previous two episodes prior to this Thursday were probably two of the best shows in the entire series. You sir need to hit your head on a ceiling fan and regain consciousness.

Really? I think the episodes have been mostly great this season - only the Halloween one was "meh" for me. I really enjoyed the Clue-like multiple timeline episode.

The one from this past week had me rolling - probably my favorite of the season. The John Goodman plotline is gold...

keg in kc 11-07-2011 10:53 AM

This season's been hilarious. Including the time-travel episode, which may be the best episode of any sitcom I've seen so far this year. Although there's something to be said for Pierce's dad. LMAO

For some reason they're moving the abortion whitney to 7 on wednesday, putting 30 rock on in community's former slot and moving bland up all night to 8:30 (shouldn't that be the one you put at 7). Which sounds to me like they're trying to kill 30 rock, too.

It's probably coming pretty quickly.
The replacement is Chelsea Handler's show, and the talentless **** [the other one] guest-starred on Whitney this week as what I must assume is her pending psychiatrist character on said show where Prepon plays her younger 'self.'

OFMG, Television could exist as nothing more than a conveyance for that last episode of Community, and I'd be fine with that.

I've done a good bit of musing on 'best TV' centering on dramas [Wire, Deadwood, Sopranos, blah, blah]. But in the comedy world, Community is making a strong bid.

Parks and Rec is a better show. But Community is un****withable when firing on all cylinders, and can go places that no other show can. It just doesn't do it consistently enough to overtake the constantly-tremendous character comedy that is Parks and Recreation.

This has been argued to death on the ACVlub boards. Leaves me cold as I love both shows, and can't say which is better. P&R is more complete in that it's realistically grounded and does poignant as well as it does funny, but Community is more innovative which allows for more resounding comedy.

And I certainly can't hate on Community at all after the last episode. It was pretty much perfect from beginning to end, and said perfection took so many diverse forms.

Some good news -

LINK

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — After acknowledging that NBC had a "really bad fall," the network's entertainment chief moved swiftly Friday to assure viewers that "Community" and "Law & Order: SVU" aren't leaving.

Although the Thursday night comedy "Community" was taken off the midseason schedule, entertainment president Bob Greenblatt said that he wanted to "dispel any notion that it is quietly disappearing." He didn't say, however, when it would be back.

At a news conference, Greenblatt also aired a video clip of star Mariska Hargitay saying that she's committed to "Law & Order: SVU" through next year. She'll even get a love interest: Harry Connick Jr. has signed on for several episodes later this season.

For NBC, keeping any audience it still has is important. The fourth-place network has continued its slow decline this fall, with Sunday night football keeping its heart beating. Viewership was off 5 percent from last season, the Nielsen ratings company said.

"We had a really bad fall, worse than I had hoped for but about what I expected," Greenblatt said.

Still, he said that he hoped new shows like "The Voice," ''Up All Night" and "Whitney" can provide building blocks for the future, even if they are only modest successes now.

NBC has been outspending its rivals in series development recently, following many years when the network kept such spending down. Greenblatt said NBC's new corporate owners, Comcast Corp., have shown a willingness to invest money and patience in rebuilding the network.

This is being reported all over and people are cheering the news while snarking the lack of a return date.

But the poor guy probably just didn't have the energy to say "we hope it won't come back for a while, as our new shows kill in the ratings, but it'll probably replace the 3rd episode of Chelsea Handler's failed sitcom."

This pic doesn't capture it well, but Britta's, uh, suit in this scene is nothing short of phenomenal. Allison Brie usually outshines her co-star vis-a-vis hotness (and she may still have), but damn Britta looked good.

Nick Offerman on CBB talking about landing the Ron Swanson role.
The Boss role was originally going to be much older, and Nick initially audition for the Brendanawicz character. Appeared to have it locked up, went so far as to have a chemistry test screen with Rashida/Ann, which was forwarded to NBC.
At that point NBC told the showrunners, 'oh no. we were envisioning someone good-looking in that role.'
Then the showrunners rewrote the Boss for him.
Even then NBC wanted a thorough auditioning process, so being assured by the showrunners he's 'their guy,' Nick nevertheless had wait 5-6 months while they auditioned everyone under the sun. What made it worse was he was regularly performing at UCB, and everyone is buzzing about the role in front of him unaware that it had been written for him. 'did you read it? isn't it awesome? I got a second call-back today!! Woo-hoo.'

Shagworthy 02-15-2012 02:21 PM

Joel McHale revealed to TV Guide over the weekend that a character from NBC’s “Community” will die in an upcoming episode. McHale didn’t give much in the way of clues, except this:

“A character from the show will die,” reveals star Joel McHale. He says the victim, although probably not one of the comedy’s main stars, is “someone you’ve seen a lot. And he dies in the mid-afternoon.”

So, we know it’s a recurring character, but we can rule out any of the named cast members. Who will it be? Let’s place odds:

Leonard Briggs (4-1) — He’s the oldest character on the show, he’s had his hip replaced, and he rides around in a wheelchair. This seems logical. Maybe too logical?

Alex “Star-Burns” Osbourne (12-1) — He is a drug dealer, which can be a dangerous profession. But then again, he only deals marijuana, and his clients are Greendale students.

Fat Neil (6-1) — Fat Neil is both fat, which makes him a health risk, and he’s manic depressive, having considered suicide once before.

Magnitude (5-1) — Although not a high risk for death, his catchphrase, “Pop Pop,” would make him a likely candidate as a gunshot victim.

Professor Ian Duncan (20-1) — He does have a huge drinking problem and his with rivalry with Señor Chang could lead to violence.

Vice Dean Robert Laybourn (7-1) — In addition to being overweight, Vice Dean Laybourne is the true power of Greendale, which could develop into a “Game of Thrones” type plotline, in which he’s picked off by Dean Pelton.

Dr. Marshall Kane (12-1) — He has served prison time, and is uncomfortable with the way that the world has changed in the two decades he spent inside. This could provoke violence, or even suicide, particularly if faced with the prospect of handling those new, tiny LEGOs.

The Greendale Human Being (15-1) — Fumes from magic markers used on his mascot costume have been known to make him aggressive; they could also potentially be lethal.

Annie’s Boobs (2-1) — It is a monkey that lives in the heating ducts, plus the death of Annie’s Boobs has the greatest comedic potential.

KcMizzou 02-18-2012 07:13 AM

Gus Fring is coming to Greendale.
