Banner was Lurie's childhood friend but he was an accountant by trade. His forte was keeping the Eagles under the cap while trimming the roster of fan favorite 30+ aged players before they went through performance decline. The philosophy was that players at the top of their physical game demand big contracts at the same time they are declining physically so dump everyone by age 31. See "Brian Dawkins", "Jeremiah Trotter", etc. McNabb / Reid never had a full set of tools because Lurie / Banner wouldn't keep veterans around. Roseman is a bit different. He's another professional accountant/attorney type that doesn't know football but plays with metrics and numbers and not pure football ability. Reid wanted to go down the road of keeping good football players like Todd Herremanns and convinced Lurie to do so but was coming into conflict with Roseman who preferred the numbers game. Lurie claims Roseman was the best talent evaluator on the staff and blamed the poor 2010/11 draft and free agent splurges on Banner/Reid. Roseman's hands were all over those moves, but as Lurie's new golden boy, he does no wrong. So, Reid was leaving either way. The last two years he had to play the hand he was dealt. I don't understand the hiring of Juan Castillo as DC but the story is Castillo wanted to try something new. FAIL. |
Thats some good insight Rob, thanks and welcome to the Planet.

The Reid/Banner divorce sounds a lot like the Carl/Marty power struggle...with the difference that Carl wasn't a complete jackass like Banner.

That is a dysfunctional organization. I don't see how anyone can blame Reid for their problems the last two seasons.

Hearing O-Line coach (not DC) Juan Castillo won't be joining Andy Reid in KC, has at least five offers depending on which jobs are filled. |

Yeah, that makes total sense. |

I'm almost certain that he and Reid had the discussion that if it didn't work out, he'd be fired, yet Castillo took the job anyway. I'd be shocked if there's "bad blood". |

He's to fat to see his staff, let alone assemble it.

I'll bet Andy is thrilled to be out of Philly. |

SaveOurChiefs @SaveOurChiefs
Source: Andy Reid has fired all but 2 Chiefs coaches. In other words, they got Dabol'd. Gibbs is 1 of 2 coaches staying. (Cont) SaveOurChiefs @SaveOurChiefs The top names for DC are Monte Kiffin, Dick Jauron & Lovie Smith has expressed an interest. Either way, look for long deals to match Reid's. |

Would like Lovie Smith out of the 3.
|

And of those 3, give me Dick Jauron. |

If Lovie has expressed an interest we should jump at it. Took the rams defense from 29 ppg to 17 ppg and that was with a fantastic offense which didnt allow for much rest.

lovie smith?
wtf? he doesn't want to be a HC? |

I'd take Lovie out of those 3 options, but I gotta think the Eagles will snap him up.
Especially after Kelly strung them out late last week. |

No way Cleveland passes up on Lovie

That's if Lovie even wants the Cleveland job.

I'd happily have any of those 3 guys. I'm not picky!

you have to be pretty impressive at what you do or a good person to survive this purge and win over the new regime.
so hats off to Gibbs and whoever (Thomas?) else survived. Kudos to them |
lol Mo Carthon what an absolute dog shit of a coach

Zach Kumke @KWSKumkeWeather
Chiefs reportedly have fired all coaches besides Emmitt Thomas and Gary Gibbs. Lovie smith had expressed interest in #Chiefs DC Job. |
Thomas and Gibbs.....the only coaches that probably should have stayed.

If it wasn't for Jamaal Charles, it would have been every bit the flaming dumpster fire the QB position was. |

haha the only coaches that got something out of their positions all things considered
Emmitt - Flowers and then had to deal with dog shit in Routt, Arenas, Brown, Kendrick Lewis shoulder whiffs Gibbs - Hali, Houston, DJ, and then the other mess at LB, Siler, Black Bob support of Siler, etc yea I'd say it makes sense for why those two stay |

Now athan is apologizing ROFL
Id take Lovie as DC |
Lovie would likely not accept DC position until he has exhausted all his oportunities as a head coach. That could be several weeks which I think would hurt his chances. If Reid could be patient and land Lovie that would be a pretty good score for DC.
Lovie or Jauron over Kiffin fo sho! |

If the Chiefs are dead set on the Tampon 2, I'd take Lovie over Kiffin.
I think Lovie will better utilize the players. Kiffin has been nothing short of awful during his USC tenure, which includes superior talent. |
I love watching Chicago's D! Theyre tough and force turnovers. We need to force turnovers
