My one complaint is that Matthew McConaghey should have had more screen time. Something with his character coming full circle later in the film would have been good.

Mostly I was just thrilled that Scorsese got me to root for an asshole.

Nope. He won with Schindlers List 5 or 6 years earlier.

You get to work in a Scorsee film at his age, looking like he does, you work for $60K. Your money will come in the next movie. You take the real shot to the face. His performance may not be as legendary as say Pesci in Goodfellows but he made an impression. Pesci made a career out of that one movie. If you got the acting chops, a nice career financially and artistically will follow this movie.
