The fact Carl Peterson is a Republican speaks volumes about the GOP

I also believe in a maximum wage, however we should get rid of welfare except for mothers that were bailed on by deadbeat dads and people unable to work. And getting rid of medicare is just freaking stupid.

Hope that clears things up.

That reminds me, it seems with Bush's stance on domestic surveillance, compounded with the patriot act , he has now done more damage to our freedoms than any terrorist ever could.

Which of your freedoms have been damaged? Other than your 'freedom' of not being killed by hijacked aircraft flown into buildings, of course.

South Park Republican is the closest characterization I'd identify with. Most of them are FOS, and it's more humorous than maddening how FOS they are. PC talk and censorship is an effing joke. Gays, minorities, women, etc. are just folks, no more or less than anyone else, but also not innoculated against being poked fun at, so long as it's good natured.
Government should do what it's good at, defense, economies of scale, standards and oversight, as good as it can, and stay the eff away from what it just effs up, social engineering, entitlements, complicated tax codes, feel-good claptrappery, censorship.

Well under The Patriot Act, you can be dragged off by the CIA without any legal recourse. And with Domestic Surveillance, you can be spied upon without court appointed permission. These are 2 freedoms taken away by the Bush administration.

I'll admit that I'm undecided on this one. I'll wait to find out more information. However, my gut reaction to it was revulsion.

You're aware that the Patriot Act passed in the House of Representatives 357–66 and in the Senate 98–1, are you not?

Ok, why not make a thread about Pamela Anderson and then ask us not to comment on her breast? C'mon man you had to know this was coming.

Because Pamela Anderson is not segregated to another forum like Politics is here. If you read the thread post all the way through you will see that I asked the moderators for indulgence.

The reason the thread is over here is to obtain the maximum number of responses. The BB population on the Washington DC forum is a very small subset of the entire active BB population.

You know, I used to consider myself more of a left-leaning moderate, but the more I've paid attention to politics, the more I find myself squarely in the "liberal" camp.

Of course, I'm pro death penalty, think late-term abortions are wrong, and find the Democratic party to be amazingly inept (not so much due to ideology as due to poor leadership and a lack of a spine).

Not sure if that disqualifies me from the liberal camp.

Mark,

I was just trying to say that if a liberal wouldn't vote you in as a SC justice, you aren't a liberal.. According to their own litmus test... That was all i was trying to say. I wasn't trying to politicize it at all.

Then you (and others) mistake deference for the office of the President for ideological orientation. My priorities.....defense/national security, taxes, and paring the federal government (although both parties fall short there, only one defends the priciple, at least rhetorically), place me, on National political concerns, with Republicans more often than I'd like--although I did vote for Clinton in '92, and Gore in 2000. Socially, I'm well left of center--but think those issues are best left to the states.

jspchief 01-25-2006 10:15 AM

I have no idea what I should be labeled. I think the fact that there are only a select few labels to fall under is part of the whole problem. I'm very conservative on some subjects, very liberal on others, and somewhere in the middle on the rest. And there are some subjects where I don't even know if my leanings would be considered liberal or conservative.

I took the political compass, and came about as close to dead center as you can:

Economic Left/Right: -0.13
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.26

Never fear, I'm finally here. Better late than never I guess.

I describe myself as a moderate between Conservative and Libertarian ideals, but I don't think that's how you are using "moderate" here so I labeled myself "Conservative." I don't think I'm that far away (on a broad range of issues) from some of the people who have taken the labels of "moderate" and "centrist" though (e.g. Taco the centrist, Pitt Gorilla the centrist, Simplex3 the uncategorizable, Vlad the right leaning moderate who loves to dress as a liberal for effect, etc. ;) ).

One thing's for sure though, I want us to surrender to Ben Laden and eat our own young and I've got "W" tatooed on my right butt cheek.... :p
