Yeah, there are a ton. It really is the best place to go in town because you can find lots of good food there.

You should try the one in P. Hill, it's not far from you. I've never tried the fajitas, cause I'm not into peppers and onions too much. I had a shrimp chimichanga last week and it was great. Very reasonable prices and good margaritas to boot. I think we spent less than $40 including a pitcher of margs.

I'm about the same distance from both. I've never actually been to Pleasant Hill. We'll have to check it out sometime.

acesn8s 01-29-2007 02:43 PM

What are the prices like at Manny's?

ChiefaRoo 01-29-2007 02:44 PM

Barbaro's burrito and taco emporium in Gladstone.

I used to like Margaritas....but after moving to san diego...I realized that those places on SW Blvd arent even close to authentic mexican...

But...with that said...everytime I come back to KC...I have to eat Taco Via.....I love that place...and it's about as far from authentic as you can get.

Iowanian 01-29-2007 03:23 PM

By "authentic" mexican food, are you refering to eating meats of unabiguous origins, unrefrigerated and rotting in the sun, covering the stench with hot peppers and chili powder? You want your tortillas made fresh from Corn(some call in Maize) on a rock, with another rock, including the meal worms for protein, cooked on a hot stone near a fire, seasoned by the smoke and ashes fluttering in the wind?

I've been in an Authentic Mayan village home in the Riviera.....uh, no thanks.

Now, if you're talking about a small, local type restaraunt that happens to be clean enough and isn't Carlos OKelley's...yeah, I like some of those places. Finding ones that would pass a health inspection...harder to find.

I'll just point to the menu item and say "beef steak" chimichanga.

Add to that:

Menus 100% in Spanish and no wait staff that speaks English
Choice of meat isn't restricted to beef or chicken but also includes tongue and tripe
No air-conditioning

Don Chilito's in Mission is OK.
Ponak's and Margarita's on SW Blvd are OK.
El Maguay's sucks.

Don't know about KC, but this joint in Denver rocks! We hit it twice every year on our ski trip in/out of town :

We always eat at the El Maguay in Blue springs, and it is fine, not great, but Ok.

Have you advised everybody in neighborhood to increase their "total loss" insurance coverage?

Please somebody has got to remember Las Playas directly across from Cool Crest off Sterling(40) in Crack-dependants by Blue Ridge. It closed down around 88 or 89 or so... Two story house converted restaurant...

Yep I went to Patricios (sp) as a young kid regularly with the fam. but; I remember freaking out one specific night while I was out with my older sister when I was like 11 and she was 16 and her boyfried was smoking weed behind Patricios, that was serious when I was that young.

Funny stuff...

Yeah back in the day the all meat burrito from Patricio's was hard to beat. You could always count on there being some different folks in and outside of Patricio's. Actually it was one of the most interesting mixes of people you'd come across. Rich, poor, all there for the food. It was that good. I saw my first real "fight" when I was like 11 at the Gomer's across the street on the way home one night. An interesting part of town late in the evening.

and that's the "seal of approval" in my book...I'm on a life long quest for the best taco...2 small corn tortillas stacked, carne asada or lengua or barbacoa, some onion, some lime, some salsa verde...heaven...line 'em up

ive seen it. he reviewed one in south central LA by the USC campus i went to and it sucked. there was a long line (i went after an SC game), night time in a gang infested neighborhood, and i was under the impression the food was pretty good.

El Zarape in Garden City used to be pretty damn good for much the same reason (IBP plant 5 miles away). It's been some years since I ate there, I hear its not as good now.

I went to Margaritas last night and must say that it was average and still seems to use the same flavorless beef that everyone uses. Walking through the plumes of smoke to get to the dining area didn't exactly impress me either. Although watching the employees talk to the police outside was an added touch. Overall, I must give it a thumbs down.

You are scaring me now. I forgot about that place until now.

I bet we have ate at the same restaurants at the same time in KC more than once while in KC/Independence based on the favorite restaurant previous thread. I do move in 1991.

What are some of your favorite eating places in Atlanta. (all types)

I hear good things about the KC Pitt BBQ probably because I am from Kc and doubt the name.

I like Dustys on Briarcliff and Fatt Matts because I also like jazz.

There is also a great Ethiopian restaurant by target on North Druid Hill and Briarcliff.

My family loves Pappadeaux's when they come to town.
