"Ladies and gentlman..... [insert celeb name here]!!!!"

Crowd applauses wildly. Star humbly waves and smiles.

Crowd dies down.

Celeb: I'm so happy to be here, hosting for my FIRST TIME!

Crowd applauses wildly. Star humbly waves and smiles.

Crowd dies down.

Celeb: Most of you know me from [whatever].

Crowd applauses wildly. Star humbly waves and smiles.

Crowd dies down.

Celeb: And soon I'll be in [whatever], coming soon!

Crowd applauses wildly. Star humbly waves and smiles.

Crowd dies down.

Celeb: But first I wanted to say...

Random SNL cast member (CM) runs on the stage, interrupting.

CM: ...Celeb! Celeb!

Audience cheers for whatever reason.

Celeb: [hands on hips] CM! [looking straight ahead to the camera as s/he speaks to CM] I'm trying to do my monologue!!1

CM: [looking straight ahead as well] I know, but I have an unfunny premise that involves some kind of idol worship of your personality that robs you of any chance to be interesting in your monologue.

Celeb: Well... okay. Go ahead.

CM: You know how you're gorgeous/handsome/crazy/married to another celeb?

Celeb: [acting pleasant but confused] Sure.

CM: Well wouldn't it be clever if I pretended to have that quality?

Celeb: [wanting him to do that] I don't want you to do that at all!

CM: Here goes! LA LA LA LA LA.

Celeb: Oh my goodness! Collective Soul is here, ladies and gentleman! We'll be right back!

Audience cheers at a volume far disproportionate to how uncreative the "skit" they just witnessed was.

Oh c'mon now, theres plenty of cool monologues..."Connery" coming out to needle Pierce Brosnan, the John Heder mono with the characters from Napoleon Dynamite, Ferrells return...theres too many to mention.

I started in on Grandpas cough medicine way too early yesterday & barely made it past "Seductive Dog", which was great. I'll have to catch it later this summer.

Easy 6 05-26-2007 08:39 PM

Saturday Night self bump, i just found this one, i'll watch it for the first time here in a sec...i betcha its funny.

I have no idea who's hosting the re-run tonight...

The blonde chick from My Name Is Earl.

And the opening monologue was exactly how I parodied it.

So ****ing predictable. Hard to believe this show used to be halfway good.

Direckshun 05-26-2007 09:45 PM

Hey, you know what else amuses me?

When the host of the show is the straight man in every sketch. :thumb:

Amy Poehler's damn good, though.

meStevo 05-26-2007 09:48 PM

Kinda scary how right on that monologue is.

I do still enjoy many of them, though great deal of them are just crap.

I'm digging up this fossil because the Late Night Wars have had me thinking about some of these old SNL 'Late Night' skits, Carvey might be the single most underappreciated player they've ever had.

He had a lot of memorable characters, this among them...

I wish SNL wasn't on NBC. I think Conan would be an incredible host to have on there right now.

I'm beginning to really hate NBC, after going through this thread, basically all vids are removed & unless i'm more buzzed than i thought, you cant even embed an SNL vid from their homepage anymore, like you could just a few short months ago.

They are some joy killing mother****ers.

JD10367 01-23-2010 09:48 PM

How the f**k is SNL still on the air. It hasn't been funny in about a decade. Maybe longer.

Oh, wait, that's right. It's NBC.

That network sucks so much ass they should change their logo from a peacock to a tossed salad.

Honestly, the thought that SNL hasn't been funny in forever is about the biggest stretch you can have.

They have some really great material on there and some talented people. Just because it's not Belushi, Sandler, Farley or Ferrell, doesn't mean it's not funny.

I've tried to watch it repeatedly over the years. Whenever I turn it on, I watch it for a while, think, "none of this is funny", and turn it off.

The longer the show's been on the air, it seems the shorter the length of time it's funny per night. Originally the whole thing was funny. In the 80s, it was funny for the first half. In the 90s, it was the first quarter of the show. Now, not even the opening monologue or first skit seem funny.

It's not necessarily their fault. When the show first started, there was little outlet for comedic writing. Now? Six billion cable channels (including Comedy Central). Comedy shows like "The Simpsons", "Family Guy", and "South Park". Late-night shows like Conan, Ferguson, and Kimmel. Movies. The media has become so dense and varied that it's stretched the good writing thin. JMO.

Thig Lyfe 01-23-2010 10:30 PM

Consistency has never, ever been SNL's strong point, even with their best casts. It has to be extremely hard to put on a new, live 90 minute comedy show 30 weeks a year. It's amazing that they're successful as often as they are, really.

Easy 6 01-23-2010 10:32 PM

I haven't watched it much, but the SNL shorts with Justin Timberlake are pretty much the only good stuff I have seen in years on that show, but I haven't watched a whole SNL in years.

Pioli Zombie 01-24-2010 06:50 AM

They've had some incredible casts, from the first Chase-Belushi-Ackroyd-Radner years to the Eddie Murphy-Joe Piscopo years to the one incredible year they had Billy Crystal-Christopher Guest-Martin Short-Harry Shearer but I think the absolute best lineup the ever had was around 1989 when they had Phil Hartman,Dana Carvey,Jon Lovitz,Nora Dunn,Jan Hooks,Dennis Miller,Kevin Nealon and their BACKUP players were Chris Rock,Chris Farley,Mike Myers, and Adam Sandler. Holy crap!!!
That was the era, from like 1986 to 1994 when I wouldn't miss a moment.

Yea, that would be my favorite era.

An underrated guy that started in that era was Tim Meadows. He was actually one of the longest running guys on the show. Something like 9 or 10 years.

kysirsoze 01-24-2010 02:10 PM

I watched an episode a few nights ago, because I want so much to like SNL. It was the Charles Barkley one. The ONLY times I laughed were at the MacGruber sketches. Apparently they're making a movie from that so I guess they're ready to beat that into the ground.

This show was last really funny a few years after Will Ferrell joined. It got bad with him on it later, but at least he kept it afloat. Since he left, it has been adrift in a sea of lame. The weird part is, it is one of the most talented casts they've had in a while. The writing just sucks. Every sketch is one note and that note is, at best, mildly amusing.

Hey! Conan's out of work! Maybe he can go back to writing for the show and save it from itself!!!

Baby Lee 02-21-2010 04:07 PM

For those of you unfamilar, it looks like the 'Draft Betty' campaign is 'this close' to a reality. Better, bringing an all-star girly cast [Molly Shannon, Tina Fey] to help her shoulder the burden of a 90 minute live show.

Jessie J. straight killed it.

It's like Katie Perry and Die Antwoord had a baby.

Party in the USA, really? if theres an award for lameass song titles, this is the clear winner for 2011. She's about to find herself irrelevant... too crazy for the kiddies & too unsophisticated for adults.

But last nights episode was one of the best i've watched in a long time, 'Kings of Catchphrase Comedy' had me in absolute tears, especially the airhorn guy.

I posted that, not about Miley, but referencing the fact that Jessie J. wrote it for her. She's writing for Britney too.

I had no idea who Jesse J was until last night, but i definitely came away impressed with her skill & formidable stage presence. Still, Party in the USA is weak IMO.

I'm starting to think that, when it comes to music, GB still has it all over the rest of us. Started with the Beatles, Who, Zep and Stones. Went quiet for a while, or at least competed on an even playing field. They never did get an epic contribution in LA Metal or Seattle sound. Then I noticed that I liked the modern pop of the likes of Pulp [though The Strokes and The Killers acquit themselves well there] more than most genres. But man, the women are killing it, Winehouse kicked it off but didn't really capitalize, but Duffy, Adele, Sharlene Spiteri, Lilly Allen.

And Li'l Wayne is of worth.

Good rerun tonight, Bridges can pretty much just fart & come out looking cool these days.

Easy 6 04-09-2011 08:56 PM

Helen Mirren, that silver haired fox & the Foo Fighters tonight, should be a good one. Hopefully they'll find a way to get Helen into something revealing.

*apologies in advance if all f'n commercialed up*

A complete embarassment. Usually the digital short is a highlight.

The Penis pic sketch was hilarious

As sechsy as Katie Perry is, I could spend eternity watching Robyn dance [even with loaves of whole wheat bread on her feet]. A couple years back she was the best part of the Teddybears' cobrastyle, and judging from last night she hasn't lost a step.
