Hey GoChiefs, I really do appreciate the GIF'd up files. A special request from the Raiders game would be the play where DBowe came back and laid out a Raider on a block downfield. I liked that one as much as I liked Bradley destroying that Lamb during the preseason on Savage's long run.

Clearly DBowe wins ASS WHIPPER of the week award.

Hey GoChiefs, just wanted to let you know, out of all the many cool things you have put together on Chiefsplanet this is one of my favorites. Nowhere else do you actually get to see breakdowns of plays quite like this. Can't wait to see more. Thanks for your hard work and keep it up!

After watching the 1st quarter last night, I'd sure as hell like to know where this "sure fire" interception that Flowers missed is?
Because surely a football fan who knows their shit and is not a complete dumbass couldn't possibly be calling JaFatty's high velocity short pass that Flowers was in no way, shape, or form in a position to do anything other than get one hand out and knock it away, a "missed opportunity", yes?

Well there are easier balls to catch, but that was clearly a good opportunity for a pick.

What you're describing is the same sort of reasoning that's become commonplace of calling every time a defender manages to touch a ballcarrier a "missed tackle" or every pass within reach a "dropped pass" no matter how unlikely.

I also love "you can't take a sack, there" - as if any quarterback ever actually chooses to be sacked.

Pitt Gorilla 09-24-2009 01:15 PM

These gifs concern me more regarding coaching/preparation. It looks like the linemen aren't sure (at various times):

1) whom to block
2) to where their neighboring lineman should be blocking the opposing player
3) that another player is passing a defender to them.

Even if the skill of these players never gets better, a better (or even rudimentary) understanding of the protections/schemes will result in a massive improvement.

PS: Oh, and GoChiefs, stop SCREAMING at me. Damn, I get it, you're passionate, but enough with screaming every sentence!

Definitely true, but I've got to defend the coach's here. As soon as Chan Gailey was relieved of his duties, there was pretty much an entirely new playbook put in place. A lot of people seem to believe there was only a new "twist" added or some new plays here and there, but that's not the case.

The players themselves have talked about how extensively the playbook was changed. I think it sounded more like a total re haul than not. Haley also commented on it a few times and the most noticeable change he commented on was blocking schemes.

The Oline got new blocking schemes just in time for the 4th preseason game. I would figure that after that game, anything that didn't seem to work well may have been slightly changed at that point too, although, nothing dramatic. The Oline looked lost, that's for sure, but they were running a new playbook with new blocking schemes.

Not only did it go right through his hands when he jumped the route, he had no one in front of him as the announcers pointed out, it would have been an easy touchdown the other way.

I think it is in the 2nd quarter.

2-5-OAK 25 (2:49) 2-J.Russell pass incomplete short right to 12-D.Heyward-Bey (24-B.Flowers).

He did have every chance to intercept that ball, actually had two hands on it too. It was a pretty hard thrown ball, but shouldn't have been too much to handle at the pro level.

If cornerbacks could catch they'd be wide receivers.

He had to lay out to get it. It wasn't a cake catch, but he should have had it. He knew it too. He laid on the ground for several seconds, you could see the disappointment in his body language.

Hammock Parties 09-25-2009 12:13 AM

OK, we're going to point out some positives this week. Especially on defense.

First, I am in shock. I honestly can't recall two Chiefs linebackers engaging offensive linemen and getting off the blocks on the same play...EVER. These guys have been coached up. Gunther is nowhere near this improvement. If these two linebackers don't sluff off the blocks, the gain goes into the secondary. GREAT job.

http://i35.tinypic.com/15qay41.gif

Now, I want you to watch Tank blow this play the **** up. Tank beats his block, could have made the tackle, but what he does allows Vrabel to clean up. Tank had a great game.

http://i38.tinypic.com/212vi87.gif

But don't worry, we have plenty of FAIL coming. Corey Mays kicks it off with a missed tackle.

Tyler doesn't really play in pass rushing situations.

Our pass rush pretty much sucked against Oakland apart from a couple plays.

Can you gif up the DL formation on 3rd and longs? It looks like they are pulling Dorsey and going with 2 down linemen with Hali and Vrabel standing on the line. It gets no pressure whatsoever.
