Thats my nephew, thats pictures from his all star game a few weeks back.

Wyndex 12-03-2009 02:05 PM

my grandpa told me (dad wasn't around) if you're defending yourself you want to punch the guy square in the nose. The guy will then do 1 of 2 things and you better anticipate which 1. He will either flinch and the watery eyes/bloody nose will just piss him off in which case you better either be ready to fight like hell or run like hell, or he will pussy up and back down in which case you better run like hell before his buddies get you

My nephew doesnt get into trouble. He gets the occasional tardy for being late as his parents work at 6am and he doesnt start school until almost 9am, so sometimes he slacks. lol

Thanks. I hope you don't think I was advocating your nephew being expelled. I was responding to Burt's comments.

I remember back in the days one of my friends got jumped at a party. HIm and another guy went alone. lol We didnt get the call until very late that they were in this hospital. Back in highschool. Well, later in that week, we made sure that guy fought most of them dudes that jumped hiim 1 on 1. he beat every one of their asses.

This was actually a race thing though. Mexicans and Black folks. lol My "homies" we werent that many, but we had back up that was the cowboys. Man, we used to have some big time parties with the cowboy's at their ranches, so awesome.

I hate when people jump someone. I think thats such pussy shit.

I am just proud he defended himself and beat that kid up. I live across the street from his school. He will come here if they try to jump him after. Lol i will beat up some little ass kids they try to jump my nephew. lol

I have already started working with my boy, he's only 2. Start him in classes at 4 most likely.

My sons started goju when they were 5. Training prevents more fights than it will ever start and the quiet confidence and discipline shows through in everything they do. Best part is they don't even know they have it.

So did mine. I'd beat the principles ass for suspending my kid for defending himself.

My dad said back in the day, if 2 people had issues with eachother, the gym coach would get them a set of gloves and they would duke it out, alone..with his supervision, no one around and that was that. Usually after that there wasn't any further altercations. There wasn't any gang fights, kids bringing knives and shit to school, 4 on1 fights etc. Of course my dad lived out in the middle of nowhere and this was like in the 50's-60's when it was ok to leave your shotgun in the back of your truck and a teacher could come out and look at it and say "cool here's mine"

No way in hell that would happen now.

Suspend my kuid for defending themselves and I'll sue the school as well. Just for the kicks...and I'd personally sue the Principle.

I will start him in Jiu-jitsu then probably muay thai. It will be important to get him some exposure to wrestling as well. I play grapple with him every day I can. He loves it. Gotta get a punching dummy for him to work on his striking next year.

How old? I'm terrified of getting in trouble. Quit going to bars years ago because of it.

hes 5. i havent been into a barfight in years, on the streets is where i rumble. I dont worry about jail, if its 'go time' im in the right, and i dont hang around.

I did have a little hippy tie up with me last show i went to. He swung and missed so bad i laughed, must have pissed him off cause he really thought he was gonna do something.

I lose my business if I get in trouble. One of the reasons I was into jiu-jitsu so heavily until the big shoulder surgery. My instructor wants me back using one arm. I'm not sure I am into getting mauled by all our tourney guys when I only have one arm but I'm going to meet with him next week about formulating some kind of game plan. I know it might sound funny to some but I miss it. I miss the combat, period. My kid seems to be the same way.

The beauty part of having 3 boys is that the wrestling part takes care of itself. I show them basic moves (sit out, shoots, etc.) then let boys be boys.

Muay thai is neat to watch, any of the arts are good for kids. You ever see any krav maga training?

mlyonsd 12-03-2009 04:52 PM

We were taught to never throw the first punch. But if someone else does don't quit throwing until they want to stop.

We were taught to not look for trouble, but when the scale tipped that a fight was more likely than not, to throw the first punch and mean it.....and then throw the rest that are required.

I've always laughed when I heard someone say to someone else "Hit me"....and stick out their chin.

I've got a younger brother who I've never heard the sentence "I'm going to kick...." completed.

All that said, things aren't the same as they were even in the 80s-90s. I think its' probably more dangerous for kids(hs) to fight now, especially in urban environments.

Being only 4 feet tall that was probably good advice your parents gave you.

Oh yea I think I remember having a conversation with someone awhile back about that. No place in Southern Oregon which is where I anticipate raising him at this point. Wrestling is huge there. He can train at pitbull down here in a couple years. Just gotta see what I can find. You gotta get em started early. It makes all the difference. Having brothers is a huge advantage he won't have which is another reason to get him in early.

I'm from Iowa so you KNOW I'm down with you when you say wrestling!

Funny, I started at 14 too. Nice to always have that confidence. I hope Travis really loves it because I am going to give him every opportunity. I think the first time someone really gets hit or mauled it says a lot about how far they will most likely take it or how much they will stay with it.

I was in Judo at a young age and wish I had stuck with that. i got choked out too many times in tourneys and didn't have a dad around sort of thing. I never did much wrestling which sucks especially when I met Randy Couture and he found out where I was raised and I didn't take it. There are some unique opportunities in Oregon in wrestling. It's not nearly as big as in Iowa but the quality is there.

Boise_Chief 12-03-2009 06:27 PM

MahiMike 12-03-2009 06:47 PM
