One of the most underrated flics of all time.

He is.

He's got it pretty nice in GOT. He practically has no lines to remember, rides his horse, eats, gets up in the middle of eating and goes and does his young gift bride doggy style, goes back to eating and riding his horse. I wonder how much they pay him for this role.

He looks like Dave Navaro on steroids. I think it's the masscara. (sp?)

It's weird if you watch the "behind the scenes" stuff, and see him talking with no accent.

Seems like a perfect choice, though... if they were going to remake Conan.

Thought I would revive this thread. Take a look at a new cut scene from Conan. I know the trailers seem a bit iffy but this makes me want to see the flick now.

He was good in Game of Thrones. I was very leery of this film at first, but after seeing him in Thrones, I think he can pull it off.

:D

I think Hollywood did a great job of selling Ahnold to us through so many profitable years. I admit I've been somewhat of a fan too - "somewhat" being the operative word - but I think (to think of a parallel) The Rock has been a better actor than him. It's now more evident after not seeing Ahnold in a new flick for some time. I was watching parts of "Total Recall" the other day and I realized how bad his acting actually was.

I think Momoa will be a better actor than him and a better fit as Conan.

Not that easy, given the lines he did have were in Dothraki, a language made up just for the show. The scene that was most impressive was the longish speech he gave about 2/3 through the season.

You know, the original is one of my absolute favorites, and the very idea of this really pissed me off, however.... that scene with Ron Perlman and kid Conan kicking ass was really pretty cool.

I'm at least prepared to give it a chance based on the reviews.

I was home today and both Conan's were on AMC this afternoon. With it being so fucking hot out I stayed in and watched both. :thumb:

Arnold was perfect for Conan. I could never figure why they stopped after the two films?

Braincase 07-22-2011 07:10 PM

A couple of points. If you're a fan of Frazetta's image of Conan, or if you're a fan of any of the graphic Conan novels of the 80's & 90's, this might prove to be a better Conan than Arnold ever was - that is, if you're a purist.

The other thing. I went back and watched Jason Momoa in Stargate:Atlantis. The size of his arms going from SG:A to GoT and Conan is freakin' ridiculous. All I'm saying is that it might be a good thing they don't test for steroids in Hollywood.

Valiant 08-19-2011 09:29 PM

Meh.. it started out great.. then went the route of clash of the titans.. It could of been better.. girl is hot though.. They really didn't let momoa act..

Arnold Schwarzenegger to Reprise Barbarian Role in THE LEGEND OF CONAN Reboot

Just minutes after we reported on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s new look in David Ayer’s Ten, we get word that the former Governor will return to his roots in The Legend of Conan. The reboot comes from Universal, which has worldwide rights on the film. The studio launched the original film in 1982 with Schwarzenegger as Robert E. Howard’s mythic barbarian. The property hit a bit of a snag with the 2011 reboot Conan the Barbarian with Jason Momoa at Millenium Films, but Universal has high hopes for the new project. Hit the jump for more including the expected storyline of The Legend of Conan.

Deadline reports that Universal and Schwarzenegger are reuniting to bring Conan back to life. The reboot will be produced by Fredrik Malmberg, CEO of Paradox Entertainment, and Universal’s writer and producer, Chris Morgan. Morgan cracked the story and may write the script, but the studio wants the picture on screens in summer of 2014. He previously wrote the screenplay for The Fast and the Furious 6 and has the job for the seventh installment, but may not be finished writing it up by the time Conan roles into production.

On the story front, The Legend of Conan is tied directly to the original, skipping over both the Schwarzenegger sequel and the Momoa misfire (Momoa is not expected to be involved in The Legend of Conan). As Malmberg put it:

Quote:

“The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make. It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle.”
The film is a dream project for Morgan, who had this to say:

Quote:

“After the original seminal movie, all that came after looked silly to me. Robert E. Howard’s mythology and some great philosophy from Nietzsche to Atilla the Hun was layered in the original film. People say, he didn’t speak for the first 20 minutes of the film, but that was calculated in depicting this man who takes control of life with his own hand. This movie picks up Conan where Arnold is now in his life, and we will be able to use the fact that he has aged in this story. I love the property of Conan so much that I wouldn’t touch it unless we came up with something worthy. We think this is a worthy successor to the original film. Think of this as Conan’s Unforgiven.”
The story that they’ve come up with and the passion they’re bringing to the table are both promising for a reboot. A note of concern comes with whether or not the studio will pursue a hard R rating. Morgan again comments:

“I loved the choices they made in that film. You start with the wholesale slaughter and death of Conan’s village at the hand of the warlord played by James Earl Jones, and you see young Conan chained to a wheel as he becomes stronger. Then he’s a pit fighter, and later basically a stud bull before he meets the first kind person of his life, who lets him go. All of that horrific stuff happened for a reason, and then an act of kindness sends him on his journey. Will that level of violence be there? Absolutely, but only if it serves a character who lives by that barbarian law of the wild, who is capable of extreme violence and rage, but who has created his own code and operates from within it. By the end of that film, Conan became a certain character, and this film picks him up there, as he faces different challenges that include dealing with age.”

And you can’t have a Conan story without hearing from the man himself. Scharzenegger was quoted as follows:

Quote:

“I always loved the Conan character and I’m honored to be asked to step into the role once again. I can’t wait to work with Universal and the great team of Fredrik Malmberg and Chris Morgan to develop the next step of this truly epic story.”

That being said, when he wasn't speaking, he LOOKED like Conan. He looked more like Conan than Arnold ever did.

I'll call it now; the Schwarzeneggar reboot will be shit. It will be a cashing in of an old franchise, reliant on glitz over story and watered down by corporate groupthink. Ahnuld's version of Blues Brothers 2000.

This was some of the coolest movie news i've heard in a long time, picking up where the first left off, the grizzled warrior king on his throne.

I can only hope they dont try to PG13 it, go R & keep it gory.

http://imageshack.us/a/img705/6858/conansword3d.jpg

The weapons, armor and costumes in the '82 Conan were awesome. Not so with the last CTB. Mamoa looked good as Conan and his physique was a better fit for the part. Eveything other than Mamoa and the wide shots of the cities looked bad in the 2011 CTB. The CGI was unimpressive and not enirely convincing. The costumery and weapon/armor design in the movie was uninspired and nothing memorable.

Ahnold's Conan had a lot of great armor and costumes. Ahnold had 9 costume changes and wore 3 sets of armor. both of Thulsa Doom's henchmen had multiple sets of armor too. Doom's armor was badass. the weapons they used in the movie are all well designed and unique looking.
