Good thing we didn't use him yesterday instead of that limp-dick.

Treanor had a nice couple of games, but Pena needs to be catching the vast majority of the games. His bat is much better than our other broke-dicks.

I predict the Royals to be 5 games under .500 by the 30 game mark of the season.

We started 18-11 a couple of years ago, then proceeded to go 5-20 -- with a Cy Young-winning pitcher on the team.

Starting pitching is just too atrocious. Even if you assume Hoch and Francis are good for sub 4.5 era. Maybe we'll get lucky and Chen will keep it up and Davies will find himself.

I actually think people are a little to hard on Gordon. I expect him to have a decent year.

.273, 19 homers. Something like that.

If you had made that bet at that exact point in the season, you would have won. So what? It's still a stupid bet.

That is .263 baseball which projects to a team going 43-119. I will let anyone pick 3 teams to follow for the next 19 games. If any of those 3 go 5-14 or worse, I will pay.

BTW, the Royals are about to open a home-stand with. 8 games against Seattle and Cleveland. If we split that home-stand, we would have to go 1-11 against Texas, Cleveland, Minnesota, and Baltimore.

We paid him too much money to simply have a decent year but at this point I'm desperate for the team to get any production out of him.

I thought you were expressing general optimism that this team can't do something really stupid, like lose a lot of games after an encouraging start. What are the ODDS that at THIS MOMENT the team goes EXACTLY 5-14 over its next 19 games? Probably pretty low. If they go 6-13, YOU WIN, SAUL! CONGRATS!

I'll take $100,000 of that action. Shit make it a $1,000,000.

Blankey 04-13-2011 03:17 PM

White Sox are pissing their game away :)

CaliforniaChief 04-13-2011 07:06 PM

I'm encouraged so far.

This team took 3 out of 4 from a decent Angels team.
They split two against a good White Sox team.
Then they went on the road and took 2 out of 3 on the road at what should be a decent Tigers team and split 2 with the always-contending Twins.

You can't argue with that. And we haven't even starting playing weak teams like the Red Sox yet. :D

alnorth 04-13-2011 07:11 PM

Indians and Angels are tied in the 8th. Its still a fantasyland fluke, but we might be just a half game back in an hour.

It's the Angels. Fantasyland is a reality everyday. So is the last we Royals fans dwell in: Tomorrowland.

How many Royals players in the last decade have hit 19 HRs and batted over .270?

Not many. As far as I can tell: Butler, Ibanez, Beltran, and Sweeney. Sweeney did it several times. Teahen came real close one year.

I'd take those numbers from Gordon in a heartbeat. If he can turn into that guy year in and year out, that's one spot to cross of the list. I'm pretty sure we've got a keeper in Butler. It's too early to say for sure, but Escobar looks good. Hopefully he can hit at the ML level.

That would make three solid everyday players out of nine. Maybe we get lucky and either Melky, Kili, or Francouer will turn into someone who can hit .270 with 19 bombs as well.

alnorth 04-13-2011 08:41 PM

The good news is we are beating teams that spanked us the last few years. The bad news is it can't be a good sign when Cle and KC are the division leaders. Something has to be wrong there.

PunkinDrublic 04-13-2011 09:10 PM

What's the scouting report on Seattle? As I understand it, they're probably the worst team we've played to date. This home stand is a good opportunity for us to stack up some wins IMO.

They have terrible hitting, but above average pitching and defense. Luckily for us, their offense is so bad that it's unbelievable.

We did good against them last year with a worse team, and even better, no Davies in this series.

I like our chances. The thing about the Royals this year is I think we finally have the right mix of young guys and veterans. And the clubhouse from what I understand has a much, much better attitude brought by people like Frenchy and Milky and Treanor. I like what I have seen so far. We have really been in every game and a couple we lost we lost of our own accord, not by getting our ass handed to us like usual.

If Gordon and Getz keep hitting our offense I think is scrappy enough to go against the best pitching and defense. We literally don't have a weak spot per sey in our lineup save Avilles and he did better today. Everyone from 1-9 is hitting and different guys are coming up with the key hits and not just waiting for someone else to be the hero. That is what is the most fun.

petegz28 04-13-2011 09:22 PM

Royals are :

#5 in the ML's in runs scored
#3 in hits
#5 in RBI's
#4 in TB's
#7 in BB's (shocking improvement)
#22 in SO's (shocking improvement)
#1 in SB's (shocking improvement)
#5 in OBP (shocking imprvement)
#11 in SLG
#5 in AVG

And that is in all of baseball, not just the AL

I know we are only 10 games in but those offensive stats are great. They say hitting usually catches up to pitching as the season goes on. If that holds true we could be an offensive surprise this year.

teedubya 04-13-2011 09:25 PM

Just going off what I have seen so far this year, I am not worried about getting into a shootout with a team. We may not be hitting a ton of HR's but we are running the bases well and generating a lot of scoring opportunities.

Texas has scored all of 4 more runs than us so far this year. And while they ahve hit more HR's than us, we have more doubles and overall hits than they do. Should make for a good series.

Having a coach with some credibility helps a lot as opposed to a guy from Japan. Plus getting rid of the bad attitudes on the team I think has gone a long way as well.
