Sorry i would like to keep that game as it is.

Biggest stomach punch game ever was az/illinois elite 8 in 2005. Cats blew a 13 point lead with 3 mins to go. Ended any chance of az being recognized as an elite program of the west.

I agree. It makes no sense the way some Chiefs fans still talk about Gannon like he was some all-time great Chiefs player. I remember when Oakland was in the superbowl and hearing people say they were "rooting for Gannon to get a ring." I'm like mother****er he started 7(or right around there) games for us in his CAREER as a Chief. **** him, and **** the Raiders.

I think I know the kicker that you are referring to. I could be completely wrong, but without him the Chiefs don't make the playoffs in 2006, right?

Steve Olin and Tim Crews.

No, the kicker that shall not be named was out of the league altogether shortly after his playoff meltdown.

Bewbies 04-27-2011 10:16 PM

Probably Iowa State v Michigan State in the Elite 8 a few years ago. That was the title game...

The 97 playoff game, and the Bartman play in Chicago are my 2nd and 3rd choices.

RJ 04-27-2011 10:18 PM

Maryland/NC State ACC Tourney Championship. Terps lost in OT. I'm still a bit pissed. In those days only the conference champ went to the NCAA's. At the time Maryland was ranked 4th in the nation. It was such a great game, filled with great players on both sides. NC State went on to beat UCLA for the national title, breaking their 7 (?) year run. I've always felt the Terps would have done the same had they won that game.

Tied with 12/25/71. Chiefs should have two SB wins.

This. It's obvious.

Who knows what would have happened after that.

Interesting. If you run a Google search on the kicker who shall not be named (without quotation marks) ChiefsPlanet has only one spot on the first page, it's the seventh item, and it's this thread. Run the search on "the kicker who shall not be named" with quotation marks and CP still has only one item on the first page. It's the sixth item and a different thread. http://chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthrea...=186946&page=8

(I'm not using the actual name in either case.)

I'm 21 and don't remember that game. I do remember adults talking about it and such.

However, I do remember that ****ing bronco's playoff game. I was 8. Third grade. There was this kid in my class who defended Grbac the next day and I got in trouble for dragging on an arguement about it. Grbac was a bum and I hated him with a passion I had never had before. And those cheating broncos covered in oil.

JFC You make me feel old...lol

KevB 04-27-2011 10:51 PM

Grew up a Memphis St. fan, graduated from KState. I was there for both the 1998 Big 12 championship game and the 2008 Final Four. Both losses were National Championship losses, and both games appeared to be in the win column at various points. Gut punches, both of them.

Titty Meat 04-27-2011 10:51 PM

Nebraska Vs Florida State in the 94' Orange Bowl. Byron Bennet would have made the game winning kick instead of missing it. Nebraska wins it would have been Osbornes first of 4 titles that decade.

I still have nightmares of Grbac looking toward the sideline with that reeruned look on his face as the precious time ticked away.

Heh, maybe Kimble Anders would have caught that pass if he had been.

SuperChief 04-27-2011 11:34 PM

How about the game where Priest got the **** knocked out of him? Think of the ramifications that single act had on the team.

JohnnyV13 04-28-2011 01:41 AM

Well...if we want to talk about KC baseball...

We could have Game 5 of the 1977 ALCS, which we lost to the Yankees. That was probably the Royals strongest ever team.

Or what about Game 6 of the 1980 World Series. Then the Royals play one more game for a title.

Grbac melted down on the final drive in 1997, but he did actually complete a lot of passes into tight coverage under heavy pressure. Losing that game was painful; I was at the game.

You'd have to make sure that Grbac is tied up somewhere far away from Arrowhead as well. Not even changing history could prevent him from being awful. We lost that game the minute Marty/Carl decided that he should start over Gannon.

You get to change the outcome of the game. What would it be and why?

For me, it would be Mizzou losing to Oklahoma in the 2007 Big 12 Championship Game.

If they had won, they would have gone to the National Championship.

Credit goes to PGM.

Probably has to be it for me.

Other high ups on the list

Game 7 of the 1987 WS
Game 6 of the 1985 WS
Game 6 of the 2005 NLCS
Tyus Edney
Flea Kicker
Missouri v. Oklahoma, 2002 Regional Final
Missouri v. Connecticut, 2009 Regional Final
Missouri v. Arizona, 1994 Regional Final
18th hole of the 2006 US Open
18 hole of the 1999 US Open,
15th hole of the 3rd round of the 2001 PGA Championship
Final Rounds of the 2001 Masters, 2009 US Open, 2010 US Open, 2004 US Open, and 2004 British Open.
Game 7 of the 1995 Western Conference Semis in the NHL

With any of the Chiefs games, we just get our asses kicked in the next round, so aside from 1993, I don't see much of a point.

frankotank 04-28-2011 02:33 PM

2006 Michigan / oh st (lower caps). called "The Game of the Century". #1 vs #2. Bo died the day before the game and Michigan did not win one for the Gipper. wish I could change that one. bastards....

Game 7 of the 1987 WS
Game 6 of the 1985 WS
Game 7 of the 1968 WS
1993 AFC Championship

If I can only pick one - Game 7 in 1968 -- best baseball team I ever witnessed and C. Flood screwed it up.

FishingRod 04-28-2011 03:04 PM

7th Grade Baseball playoff game against the hated same school rival. We were essentially the wild card tem from division two they were the 3rd year running chaps from A league. And they had cut me from the friggin team two years earlier even though I was certainly not in the bottom ½ of the players. I was pitching and we were ahead 4-2 in the 4th inning with 2 outs. Coach pulled me out after I walked two batters and put in Meatball Paul. They promptly got about 12 straight hits and decimated us. I just wanna go back and finish pitching that game. My buddy Scott would probably like to have played in the game but was in the hospital with appendicitis.

NFC Playoffs: St. Louis Rams 49, Minnesota Vikings 37

I'd have the Vikings beat the Rams... that way there is no NFC championship in St. Louis the next week... and that means that Derrick Thomas wouldn't have gotten into a car accident driving to the airport to see that game.

I was wondering if ANYONE was going to mention game 5 of the 1977 ALCS. That's the game I would change. It was a heartbreaker. I was in the stands in right field that day, and I've never seen 40,000 people go absolutely silent after a game like that. After a few minutes of total silence, a bunch of people actually started crying.

It sucked because the Royals had the best record in baseball that year and they would have been a heavy favorite in the World Series. That WAS their best team ever. It was nice to beat the Yankees in the 1980 ALCS and to win the 1985 World Series, but they didn't make up for the 1977 loss.

Misplaced_Chiefs_Fan 04-28-2011 03:38 PM

SB Champions that year.

I almost did, but didn't for the reason I posted earlier in this thread.

I was 11 watching on TV in Winston-Salem, N.C., and I cried my eyes out (just like Patek in the dugout).

But as painful as that game was (and it still pains to remember), from my standpoint the 1980 ALCS DID make up for it. To me, that was more satisfying than even the 85 Series win. That 80 win (and Brett's HR) was so cathartic, so fulfilling precisely because of the 76-78 heartbreaks.

WilliamTheIrish 04-28-2011 05:01 PM

No question; 1977 ALCS game 5. I remember every pitch, every hit, every foul ball. Watching Paul Blair bloop that ****ing single in front of AO.... Frank's incredible grab of Chambliss' line drive on the short hop and Reggie laying spikes to Freddy P.

That's the game Id change.

The 1980 ALCS would have made up for it for me if they had closed the deal and beat the Phillies in the World Series. Since they didn't, that season also ended in frustration.
