I thought somebody had been talking about trying to acquire him one way or another, now that I think about it, I am confusing him with Paul Soliai, who Milk had been talking about making a deal for. I'll edit my post.

Anyway, I think Franklin could be good if he'll take a short deal(doubtful). Let him stop the run, and let Powe get after the QB while he learns the ins and outs of NT in the NFL.

People hated the idea of picking up Casey Hampton last year when he was apparently going to be cut. turns out he had a pretty nice season with the Steelers.
I dont see what the problem is with signing Pat Williams to a 1-2 year deal. We have a bunch of cash to spend. At worst hes depth, at best hes the player we need in the middle for a year or two while Powe hopefully develops.. Its our most glaring need IMO you do what ever you can to fill it. |
Damn, I am so pumped to see who we go after. It seems as though players throughout the league have come to the conclusion that we are on the cusp of big things. Really makes me believe we are going to sign quite a few solid veterans in the Pioli/Patriots mold, and it's really going to strengthen the shit out of this team. We've got a ton of young talent. If we fill out our roster, and plug the big holes, we could very well be going DEEP into the playoffs.

Soliai, I thought might hit the open market, but that useless bastard didn't even give the open market a second thought. |
I'd have mixed feelings about this move.
#1. He is old. And would probably only play 20-25 snaps a game max. #2. He has to go through the transition of playing from a 4-3 DT to 3-4 NT. Big difference there. Not exactly sure if he would provide good mentorship for the young guys? And Im only saying that because he would have to learn and adjust to a new position/scheme and doesn't necessarily have the experience of a 3-4 NT. So how is it possible to teach them? *But, on the other hand, we'd be getting a good veteran and proven run stuffer that can be very useful in 3rd and 1/short yardage situations. I'd be in favor of this move only if the Chiefs were running a hybrid type defense. So Im leaning more towards a "no"...But he would be good to have because he could give Crennel more options on defense. I'd rather develop a young guy or sign Franklin instead. Besides, stopping the run wasn't a team weakness anyway? So passing on Pat Williams is no biggie. |
really we need bout 4 NT to run in rotation .. if able to get some cheap .. get em ....

Williams is up there, does he even want to play in 2012?

They change coaches every 2 years, have no one even close to resembling a QB, and only manage to play half-assed-respectable in division games. |

FIVE VETERANS WITH SOMETHING LEFT IN THE TANK
Pat Williams took a step backwards at 37 last season, but it was from very lofty heights; Minnesota still ranked eighth against the run by DVOA, and Williams still contributed seven tackles for a loss or no gain. Some smart team is going to bring him in and spot his snaps effectively, and they'll get a great run-stuffing tackle as a result. http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/...scrambling-act |

FIVE BANDWAGONS TO JUMP OFF Shaun Smith is the Vinnie Jones of (American) football, just without the comedic turns in Guy Ritchie movies. First, it was getting into a fistfight with Brady Quinn when they were both on the Browns. Last year, he was accused of junk-grabbery by two different offensive linemen in consecutive weeks. Around the league, he's regarded as one of the game's biggest shit-talkers, which says a lot in a league full of shit-talkers. He's already received one steroid suspension. This all wouldn't be a problem if he was any good, but Smith's just a big body without any history of production. At least Jones won an FA Cup |
take Williams and go after Franklin, that will be our interior d line this year, sign tamba too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reasonably healthy & properly motivated, Pat could be Ted Washington 2.0 for us.
Let him eat space on run downs for 2 years while Powe learns the ropes, he'll be cheaper than Aubrayo Franklin as well. |

Let Powe play against poor running teams, or teams with weak interior lines?
