I sooo hope i'm wrong, but i smell a disappointment... its going to be real tough to re-create that old magic imo.

Of course he's starring in it but Jeff Daniels said it was hilarious. I don't think Jim Carey would do a sequel if he didn't like the script.

Edit: I just realized I replied to an 8 month old comment.

It's going to be impossible to live up to the first one.

Just try to enjoy it for what it is.

Urc Burry 06-10-2014 10:22 PM

Yeah, the first one was one of my favorites ever.. But some of the lines in the trailer just scream it's gonna be a 'hangover 2' type sequel

I think I'm going to hate the "20 year long joke" thing. I'm sure it is only referenced that one time, but it is still beyond over the top, even for these two characters.

The best thing about the original was its relative simplicity and the jokes never being ridiculous and over the top. There are some in the trailer that are way too much of the poop jokes type. I hope it isn't completely filled with those.

lcarus 06-11-2014 11:20 AM

You can't reheat a soufflé. That said, I'll still watch it and get a few laughs. I guess that's all that is important.

Ceej 06-11-2014 01:22 PM

While I think it'll be infinitely better than Anchorman 2 this looks like a Redbox movie for me.

And trust me, I hate admitting that. The original is in my top 5 movies.

me too.
I'm going into it looking forward to some one-liners and getting a few laughs. the 1st one is impossible to beat. and I 'think' when the first one came out, it was sort lower rung movie; but then it gained a huge following unexpectedly.

Ceej 06-11-2014 01:37 PM

I just can't justify going to see a comedy in theaters.

I typically only go see action or horror movies.

Theaters don't make or break a comedy, for me anyway.

Dayze 06-11-2014 01:39 PM

This.

I could see shelling out for a big budget Sci-Fi, action, or Horror movie because of the visuals but a comedy?...

Precisely. What do you gain?

Better sound, and better picture quality -- but that's not enough for me. Lol.

I'd much rather watch a comedy from my own couch. My "snack bar" has better "candy" than the movie theater... :D

A horror movie on the big screen is much, much more enjoyable than a comedy. Ten times out of ten.

He's right. I don't think a comedy is affected by screen size and sound quality. It's equally entertaining at home and in the theater. However, watching a big production action/thriller or a horror movie is infinitely better in the theater than at home for me.

Precisely. No matter how good the comedy might or might not be the theaters don't really enhance the experience at all

unlurking 06-12-2014 05:11 AM

For the most part I agree, but sometimes a packed theater with a really good comedy can sometimes feel like so much more than just a movie. You get drawn into the movie through the atmosphere of the crowd. Admittedly this is rare, and I can't remember the last time I experienced it. For comedies, it's not the venue that improves the movie, but the other patrons.

kcxiv 06-12-2014 05:15 AM

meh, theaters arent more enjoyable or less enjoyable, its just to get out of the house, or to do something thats not at home. I just hate going when its packed is all.

Yeah. I hit weekend first showings and it's normally no more than 30 people. Sometimes feels kind of lonely though! lol

Pepe Silvia 06-12-2014 12:58 PM

It does look pretty bad. The Farrelly Brothers haven't made a good movie in a long time.

Dayze 06-12-2014 12:59 PM

I'm sure it won't be as good as the first...that's impossible. But I think there will still be a bunch of great 1-liners etc.

Somewhere in this thread I said something about how tough it would be even getting close to the hilarity of the first... and if the trailers and reviews I've seen are any indication, I was right.

Hate to say it, but it just HAS to be sooo hard to replicate that kind of magic.

The trailers look like lame revisions of the original highlights... I will definitely give this 2-3 tries before passing final judgement, but I'm not expecting much.

But unlike the snide reviewers I've read, this one could NEVER tarnish the absolute brilliance of the first one... I've watched it a couple times in the last few days and it doesnt matter that its been watched 1000 times before, its just funny over and over again.

This

Also, it's getting a 7.5/10 on IMDB. One thing I've learned from the original movie is that girls don't like the humor for the most part so most women's ratings don't matter any more than ours does for 'The Notebook' or when Bet Middler decides to belt out "The Rose".

Pretty much the exact same thing here. I had a good amount of laughs, but of course it's not better than the first movie. There's a good amount of references to the first movie that I thought were awesome
Spoiler!
and there's a lot of new jokes. Some hit, and some miss the mark and make you just kinda sit there, but that's almost how all comedy films are nowadays. It was worth seeing the movie.

Fork and screen is nice, and comedy's are better with a crowd. Saw this last night, not a good movie but familiarity with the characters made it strangely entertaining.

DJJasonp 11-16-2014 08:57 PM

I realize they were up against expectations that would never be met - but I came away pretty disappointed.

You can never go back......

I chuckled more often than I should have - but only for nostalgia's sake, due to my love for the characters.

The funniest bits were shown in the trailer - unfortunately.

The opening scene - and the scene with the old lady would have been 3x as funny if I hadnt already experienced them both in the trailer.

While it wasn't a terrible sequel, this is absurd to think.

It's nowhere near as good as the original. The original is on a level with great, great comedies, this movie wasn't even close.
