I like a lot of stuff like ACB.

My favorite band is August Burns Red. I really was into a lot of Emery, Showbread, and Project 86 too.

I've got a bunch of buddies who were into that sort of music and I just really enjoy it.

I'm so far behind on what actual "music genres" are. But, stuff like ACB and ABR -- I'm really into.

If you missed all the Frank Ocean hype (he confessed in a pretty moving blog post to having had an unrequited love for a good male friend) in the last week, then this performance might not be quite as "heavy." Anyway, this is the song with the lyric in it that led to the speculation, which led to him "coming out." For anyone who knows anything about the hiphop world, this is a big ****ing deal as Frank is a lady's man who is part of Odd Future (they're like the JackAsses crew of hiphop right now), so it's a really strange deal.

All that being said, the performance stands on its own:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.nbc.com/assets/video/widget/widget.html?vid=1408858" frameborder="0"></iframe>

NewChief 07-10-2012 09:16 PM

Now that you've streamed the new Frank Ocean album (you did didn't you?), check out the new Baroness album in its entirety.

http://www.spin.com/articles/barones...tal-album-year

I'll probably get freaky with the lady later tonight and give the Frank Ocean another spin. For now, though, let's ****ing rock

NewChief 07-10-2012 09:33 PM

Holy goddamn shit. I thought I was going to be conflicted on the new Baroness, but this thing is giving me ****ing chills. Wow. End of "Twinkler" brought tears to my eyes. Certainly a departure for them, and purists may not like it... but shit. Once again they hit my sweet spot.

NewChief 07-12-2012 08:54 AM

So every now and then, an album/song comes along and I say to myself, "This is going to be big," and I almost feel guilty for listening to it because I know that before long every Tom, Dick, and Harry is going to be listening to it, and I'll be completely burnt out on it (Gotye, Mumford and Suns, Fun.). Still, it's fun to be in on the ground floor. So this is your notice to get in on the ground floor.

Gotta rep some Little Rock shit on the realz, yo!

It's funny, actually, because this guy gets no love in the local indie rap scene, but he's gotten quite a bit of hype on the national scene. Anyway, he's a pretty cool voice in rap. Tales from the ghetto that somehow remain positive and optimistic while still being gritty and true.

Im guessing you're talking about EBAH his latest EP...If you haven't heard it yet, you're not missing much. Arguably Tech's worst project to date (tied with Gates Mixed Plate IMO). Still, there's a few good songs. And Tech's comin out with another EP in 11 days called "Boiling Point". I think it will be much better than EBAH.

Yep. Album of the year. It really is like a short film. The whole story he tells through the songs & skits is fantastic. Amazing lyricist. And his flow>>>

The new P.O.S. album, We Don't Even Live Here, is a straight up banger. Bumping it all day long today. Love the politics of his stuff, and this album is made even more impactful for me due to his current battles with kidney disease and search for a transplant.

NewChief 10-29-2012 08:33 AM

Some psychedelic world insanity. The band is Goat, and they're pretty interesting. Here's their (mostly bullshit?) backstory:
http://thequietus.com/articles/09798...usic-interview
Quote:

As back stories go, it's an absolute corker. Goat are a mysterious band from the tiny village of Korpilombolo in northern Sweden. According to legend, Korpilombolo has a long history of voodoo worship, after a travelling witch doctor settled there several centuries ago. When Christian crusaders invaded and destroyed the village, the surviving townsfolk placed a curse on Korpilombolo as they fled. It's said that the effect of the curse is still felt today, and informs the highly rhythmic and trance-like music played by generations of villagers, which, in turn, has shaped Goat's extraordinary debut album, World Music.

It's like Freddie Mercury and Paul Simon had a secret love child who actually founded the REAL Polyphonic Spree, and I find nothing wrong with any aspect of that scenario.

Quoting NC d/t his citation of Fun was not intended to indicate that the question was directed towards him alone, but to indicate my sense that I found the right thread to pose the question generally.

Fair enough. Based on your post, I'm listening to Fun.'s latest again (I wasn't terribly impressed with it the first time aside from their two hits) and it sounds pretty decent now to my fogeyish ears. I like your Freddie Mercury / Paul Simon comparison. I think it's changed the way I'm hearing it this time.

Further irony, I'm listening to the H'Ween Who Charted, and longtime Funfan Koo-koo Knee-high-socks just remarked 'even I'm getting tired of it'

But some nights is still top 5.

I've been listening to all of the things, considering its the start of Year End Best Of List Season.

Today I re-visited:
First Aid Kit - The Lion's Roar
Tame Impala - Lonerism
Sharon Van Ettan - Tramp
Migel - Kaleidoscope Dream

and listened to Heems - Wild Water Kingdom.

Up next tomorrow is Cities Aviv's new album, Black Pressure

Chris Hardwick summarizes 'Some Nights'

'If there was a rave scene in The Lion King on Broadway.'

I may catch a lot of flack for this and I'm at the point where I think I can accept it.

But, I really dig Locked Out of Heaven by Bruno Mars.

Diplo's "Best of 2012" Mix:

Opening mix of "High for This" into "Swimming Pools (Drank)" is badass.

"1 Train" showed up in my feed this morning after I'd already gotten to work. Then I had kids' holiday pageants and shit until tonight. I've basically been waiting all day to get home and listen to it and enjoy it. It didn't disappoint.
