I kind of like Dead-Endicott. Annie Freeze could work, though.
Someone suggested that my friend Julie call herself Kiltlifter. She almost did. |
One of the girls I met last night was Thugz & Kissez. So it really could be anything. I really like Annie Freeze.
Come to think of it, "Ann" is part of my first name, which makes it even cooler. |
That's the dumbest name I've ever seen. Figures you can't even pick a good name despite stellar suggestions from the creative people. Waste of my damn time.

You could change Annie Freeze to Auntie Freeze.

Just thought I'd bump this and update. I went through and passed the written rules test and all of the skills tests. Had to do that in order to get insurance, and you have to have insurance to get hit. You also have to be able to hit in order to tryout. Anyway, tryouts were last week, and I'm now a Battle Broad, which is the B squad. The All-Stars are the A squad, and we're all known as the Springfield Roller Girls. :) Oh, and my derby name is DEAD ENDicott and my number is 37.

37 is meant to hit. |

We had our first home bout last night, and both of our teams won! I was in the penalty box three times (one of which I shouldn't have been). My last time in the box was for a low block, but it was worth it. I went down hitting a girl, but at least I took her down and out with me! :D

Dinny Blues came out. It was good to see someone from the Planet.

Bumping just in case anyone near Springfield is interested. Updated OP with our latest bout poster.
|
I am going to be there Sunday. Really enjoyed it last time.
Quite very likely Springfield's soon to be greatest entertainment value. Dinny |
Another derby bout. Any of you in or around Springfield need to come check us out. We are currently undefeated at home (knock on wood)! See OP for details!
|
June 8 (finally a Saturday!) at Skateport. No reason for you locals not to be here. We're taking on the ICT Roller Girls out of Wichita, KS.

Yes, I believe they sell beer. They're a really good team ranked very high nationally. You're in for a good time. |

I heard Dead End is the shizzle. |

And I have no clue. The girl who does that keeps saying "when she gets around to it". |

The lockerroom cam (Cinemax New Event) is probably better than the the floor show... |
Updated the OP. If you're local, PLEASE come out!
We will also be at Outback Steak and Oyster Bar in Branson tonight. They're throwing us a karaoke party with food and drink specials. Tickets to the bout next weekend will also be available. |
I'm still mad you didn't go with my suggestion for your name: "Diana Fire"
:harumph: |

"Roller Derby" sounds like something that could be an odd sex act nickname. like Dirty Sanchez etc. I'm just not creative enough to come up with anything right now.
Luv are most of your games (?) down there in Springfield? Or do you guys travel up north at all? |
People have never heard of roller derby? In the 70's it got to where it was more or less the WWF on wheels - all show. It's actually a sport that both men and women do, although it's much more popular with the ladies.
The basics: There is a Jammer. This is the person who scores points by lapping and passing opposing Blockers. The Jammer is easily recognized due to wearing a helmet cover that has a big star on each side. There are four Blockers who prevent the opposing Jammer from passing them, but who are also trying to help their Jammer get through the pack (group of Blockers from both teams). One of the Blockers will be wearing a helmet cover that has a big stripe running down the center. The Blocker is called the Pivot. If the Jammer is tired or having difficulty getting through the pack, she can take her helmet cover off and hand it to the Pivot. The Pivot becomes the new Jammer ones she puts the Helmet cover on over Pivot helmet cover. A bout (or game) consists of two thirty-minute periods with a halftime between. Each period consists of a number of Jams. A Jam ends either when two minutes have gone by or when the Lead Jammer calls off the Jam. The Lead Jammer is the first Jammer that makes the initial pass through the pack without committing a penalty. If the Jammer who passes her helmet cover to her Pivot happens to be the Lead Jammer, then she loses that status, and the Jam will go the entire two minutes. No points are scored until after a Jammer makes their initial pass through the pack and laps them. There are penalties such as elbowing someone, hitting someone above the shoulders, tripping someone, pushing an opposing player from behind, or cutting in front of players when you come back in from getting hit out of bounds. If the Jammer who gets sent to the penalty box is the Lead Jammer, she loses that status and the Jam lasts the entire two minutes. Anyone committing a penalty has to spend time in the penalty box. Anyone who gets sent to the penalty box seven times over the course of the bout gets ejected from the game. |
shit that sounds confusing.
I guess it would make more sense in person. how do you block? Do you just get in their way or can you 'influence' their path. |
