I'm pretty sure the ref from the Seahawks MNF game Enrico Palazzo'ed one of the real umps and took the field there.

KC_Connection 10-05-2012 05:55 PM

Did the replacement refs move down to Atlanta for this game?

stonedstooge 10-05-2012 05:55 PM

Should make the ump crew pick that shit up

smoke 'em if you got 'em - this is going to take a while. The umps feel naked, standing there. Or at least they should.

Correct me if I'm wrong. The infield fly rule is designed to prevent the fielder from letting a pop up drop in order to get the easy force (or 2). That was never going to happen out there.

Kind of embarrassing how they rest of the umps dont overrule that.

stonedstooge 10-05-2012 06:00 PM

Ump didn't call it until the ss gave a signal like he didn't see it or couldn't get it

Yes, exactly. I think the umpire forgot he was in LF.

veist 10-05-2012 06:01 PM

So seriously, I better not catch anyone of us complaining about Denkinger again.

chefsos 10-05-2012 06:02 PM

It would be really easy, too, to reverse this call. It's not like they'd be adding/subtracting runs or moving baserunners all over.

EDIT: And it wouldn't hurt the Cardinals all that much, either. The DP would be in order.

stonedstooge 10-05-2012 06:05 PM

Game being played under protest

Chest Rockwell 10-05-2012 06:05 PM

Doesn't matter where it's at. By the book it can be called anywhere as long as an infielder has a play on the ball.

May not be a great rule, but it sounds like it's being called by the book.

chefsos 10-05-2012 06:05 PM

Has any protest, in the history of ever, been successful?

ArrowheadMagic 10-05-2012 06:06 PM

pretty sure the rule wasnt applied correctly.

KC_Connection 10-05-2012 06:06 PM

Uh, Verducci, the rule was not applied properly...the ball landed in the outfield.

extremely uncommon, but i'd say yes. But I don't know.

duncan_idaho 10-05-2012 06:07 PM

This is the problem you open yourself up to by having instant replay in such a limited factor.

If you're going to have replay, something like this situation has to be reviewable.

And also... gosh, the third base ump has to have the stones to overturn that play.

Braves fans are garbage. As is Matt Holliday in LF.

I thought about that one. Couldn't remember if it was an official protest.

Actually, Braves fans kind of impressed me. I thought they were completely apathetic.

Kozma backed off that ball so Holliday could catch it and was surprised when he didn't.

it's just so populated now w/ transplants. It's all the folks from the Swats or the others that transferred here from Yonkers.

teedubya 10-05-2012 06:12 PM

Braves fans need to fly a banner real quick.

kstater 10-05-2012 06:12 PM

Might see the smallest strike zone ever in this AB

ShowtimeSBMVP 10-05-2012 06:14 PM

Should be 6-4 now

Simply Red 10-05-2012 06:14 PM

your manager has been nifty w/ his pitching changes. Freddy getting out coached, honestly.

Edit: The errors were certainly the difference in the score though, just so that i'm clear.

kstater 10-05-2012 06:14 PM

6-4 1 out with bases loaded now.

Until they start the game with the bases loaded and 1 out in the bottom of the 8th tomorrow.

what the f just happened there

kstater 10-05-2012 06:22 PM

LMAO at the Braves fans chanting "infield fly" on the fly balls to the outfield.

The Ross timeout worked out pretty well for the Braves, similar blown call. And probably about as impactful.

Me thinks they re-play this thing tonight.

stonedstooge 10-05-2012 06:29 PM

Decision's going to have to be made pretty quick as I'm sure the Cardinals are scheduled to fly out of Atlanta tonight

Pasta Little Brioni 10-05-2012 06:29 PM

Frank Dribbon out in the OF calling this thang?

Frazod 10-05-2012 06:29 PM

Still on the train-I have to go home to my pissed-off Braves fan wife who's been sending me angry texts for half an hour. I think I'd be better off going back to the office.
