Jerry Jones will make him the highest paid coach in the history of professional sports. KC won't even be in the discussion.

And even if he didn't, why would SP want to KC and start from scratch?

Top three pick next year if not number one overall?

It the single most important quality required by a Hunt-owned employee.

You say this when Payton signed on with Tom Benson... who pretty much would do anything to get his way, and was probably considered one of the worst owners before they started winning. He almost moved the team to San Antonio.

When I heard this today I had 2 thoughts.

1. Oh shit...what an opportunity. Clark, Fire Pioli Now....Hire a new GM who will throw a shitload of your money at Sean Peyton....to Save our Chiefs. He'll be a great offensive coach, probably contribute to making a sound Decision for a QB for your future....and may be a change to potentially bringing Bowe back, which isn't happening.

2. I'm a Chiefs fan...it will never happen.

shit no - NO ONE who can call their own shots in the league will ever come to KC - coach or player.

Payton either stays with his HOF QB in NO or goes back home to Dallas (where I guess he moved after his divorce.)

It's laughable to think that he would come here. Maybe if he got to be his own GM, or had a say-so in what GM he was working with...but 99% improbable even then.

The only people who will take this job are Pioli's former NE cronies who have failed elsewhere (Crennel, McDaniels), Young upstarts looking for their first shot (Haley), old failed former head coaches who know it their LAST shot (Crennel again), or Bill O'Brien. That's your list as long as Pioli is here.

Jon Gruden, Bill Cowher, Andy Reid, Perry Fewell - not a single one of those guys would even talk to the Chiefs with Pioli here. Jeff Fisher wouldn't even entertain the idea of coming here. And if weren't for the Chiefs, Daboll would be coaching WRs at a Div I-AA school, if he even had a job in football at all - from all accounts I've heard, he's an ignorant and arrogant asshole...though I can't imagine what he has to be arrogant about. He's fat, bald, and his offense is more predictable than a Punt Pass & Kick contest.

But long story short, no Sean Payton.

That was with Pioli and Cassel here. The new guy coming in gets to pick his QB and knows how desperate we are to give him more power.

Bonus for Payton is that we don't have to wait until end of season to start negotiations. That's huge. Remember how we had to wait until the super bowl to get Haley?

Do not want.

Almost 50 years old, has already won a SB with a previous team and has been out of football for a year.

The game has passed him by.

Again, the only way I see him leaving his handpicked Hall-Of-Fame QB would be to go home to Dallas.

(btw, Jerry Jones would easily outbid Clark Hunt for Payton's services.)

Sorry, but get it out of your head; Sean Payton ain't coming here.

Kevin Harlan just said on the radio that there are unreported (or only discussed on the fringe of the mainstream football media) "character issues" with Sean Payton, unrelated to Bountygate.

Is there any hope that the NFL is digging through Crennel and Pioli's contacts and they find a reason to void them?

Please?

Conjecture, but he when was interviewed the morning after the Super Bowl and said he hadn't been to sleep, he had been 'celebrating'...let's just say, from his appearance, I believed him.

NFL has given the Saints and Payton permission to negotiate a new contract despite Payton being on suspension. The league is allowing contact under certain guidelines that will allow a new contract to be negotiated. Roger Goodell said on Espn that they team and Payton ARE CURRENTLY working to fix the clause in the contract that led to it being voided.
