I agree with your underlying point (yes, Urban Meyer will own the B1G for the next decade), but lets not act like he's getting it any easier by going to the SEC West.

I should have said,"And to coach in the SEC"

Warmer weather.

Better recuriting opportunities.

A lot better support from the school in terms of program budget.

Also, Saban isn't going to be at Bama too much longer. That conference is going to be wide open again.

Well, look at it this way:

Wisconsin is probably at it's zenith right now and the cupboard for next year isn't exactly stocked. Urban Meyer is just getting started at tOSU.

Arkansas had a down year and has big upside. Nick Saban has been at Alabama for a while and won multiple championships.

This is more about timing and opportunism than anything else.

Bielema may or may not by the answer, but damn is he surrounding himself with a prime coaching staff. Hires so far:

OC: Jim Chaney (Tenn)
OL Coach: Sam Pittman (Tenn)
DC: Chris Ash (Wisconsin).

Pretty exciting so far.

ncCHIEFfan 12-13-2012 03:33 PM

Wish I knew something about any of those guys....but I don't. Glad to see there is something to get excited about tho

As indicated by my OP, I was pretty ambivalent on this hire. I'm now fully on board and am more than impressed with the staff he's assembling. It's seriously impressive in my opinion (and from what I've gathered through research).

ncCHIEFfan 12-13-2012 05:43 PM

Just spoke with my dad, who still lives in AR, and he too is "cautiously optimistic". He was absolutely furious when he first heard the news. My biggest concern now is Bielemas ability to recruit!

ncCHIEFfan 12-13-2012 05:45 PM

Oh and thanks for the keeping the uninformed, informed!

NewChief 12-18-2012 10:20 PM

My god. Arkansas picks up Wisky's S&C coach, Ben Herbert, as well. This guy is a freaking badass. Looks like Ash is going to stay as well since Wisky went elsewhere for their head coach.

I'm almost feeling sorry for the Wisconsin fans... almost.

Chris Ash is actually a great coach.

Really? I'd like to hear more, because everything I know about him (as a DC) is extremely positive.

Jeff Dillman > Ben Herbert

:D

ncCHIEFfan 12-19-2012 06:39 AM

Yes, do tell! I am curious to know why you insinuate C.Ash is not a good D. coach.

Rumor is that we've hired Randy Shannon as our LB coach. Damn.

This staff is awesome

Seriously. Maybe I'm just drinking the kool aid, but I'm feeling extremely optimistic about the future of our program.

Last offseason, we were looking at Shannon as a DC. Now we got him as a LB coach? Unbelievable. Petrino must have been a real asshole.

NewChief 02-04-2013 10:00 PM

Just landed Alex Collins.

Flipped Hartfield from KSU as well.

Not that I put that much stock in such things, but I'll be curious to see where Bielema ends up ranked with this recruiting class after being handed an absolute trainwreck. He's performed a miracle to salvage what he has and land some of these people.

Im a Wisconsin fan. Dont need shitty Arkansas pity. Good luck with Beilman and his inability to coaching his team to victory in big bowl games. He couldnt recruit that well neither. Have fun being last in the SEC

FloridaMan88 02-04-2013 10:09 PM

Collins didn't want to back-up Duke Johnson at Miami.

Arkansas is a better fit.

Meanwhile, Missouri misses a bowl game, keeps their HC, watches the OC they should have hired go to Arkansas witha charismatic HC and we bleed off every decent recruit we !@#$ing have.

Yeah, good call, Alden. Sure looks like doing nothing and accepting mediocrity and rampant cronyism is the way to get ahead in the SEC...

Just read that we lost Loud yesterday. ****, Pinkel is completely worthless.

RustShack 02-04-2013 10:37 PM

Iowa State picked up a GREAT coach! He should help improve the OL and hopefully add a few wrinkles to the offense. Former OL coach for Arkansas and OC for the Kapernic ran Nevada pistol offense.

Collins is a nice get. He fits the build of a typical Wisconsin back.

But did he really?

A former scholarship football player in his mid-30s that is pulling in several million/yr and is a head coach for an SEC school 3 seasons removed from a BCS game (and with back to back BCS appearances of his own...).

If that's your resume and you can't pull a 10, well you're just sad.

Besides, he's a winning head coach, so you know he's a hell of a recruiter...

They're recently married (like 2 years). Met at a bar in Vegas. I've heard it's a good thing because rumor has it he was a frequent pussy hound at the bars in Wisky.

Well, I like what the S&C coach is doing with the kids:

http://distilleryimage7.ak.instagram...0a1f9688_7.jpg

According to the player (Brey Cook) the two pictures are: January 14th 2013 -July 25th 2013. #bodybyherb #neveryield

That's an incredible transformation in that time period.

Probably. Though Herbert has gotten a lot of hype in the national media for his ability to transform kids. You'd think that would have attracted some regulator's attention as well during his time with Wisky.
