To have some good in all this SOC should maybe hold a drive to raise money for domestic abuse or mental illness.

Is this just new to the CBA then?

I know DT had a lot of kids. The man that died with him Michael Tellis had children. Tellis had a daughter in KC that is one of the hardest working women I've met, went to school while holding down 2, sometimes 3 jobs while not having a car and having to ride the bus. She could have definately used the help, so this must be new.

Wouldn't have helped that lady unless she was a dependent of DT for some reason. As I understand it, Tellis was just an unfortunate friend riding along with DT.

That is nice and I'd be curious how many other states have similar laws.

If that were law in California, I figure the population would be cut in half rather quickly.

All states have suicide clauses in their life insurance policies. Most state that the policy has to be in-force for two years before it would pay, but some allow only one year.

I thought it was already decided that the excess would be given to the boys and girls club.

Oh, well that works too :)

I didn't know, but that is a good one.

Has there been anything said about the possibility of paternity being questioned? I heard a rumor that JB had recently discovered the baby was not his but have not seen or read anyone speculate or report about this.

Yeah the whole thing with DT was more tragic becaue he was a HOFer, a legend, and was drafted high and stayed in KC his whole career.

I understand the dependent thing, just wierd how being older at the time of a parents death can sometimes be harder to deal with, losing the person that actually raised you, than being a baby and not ever knowing them. Both are horrible.

Does anyone know if Perkins parents want custody?

Surprised it's not an issue.

I read they found out about their daughter's death seeing it on TV.

Good point.

That money is going to bring about an ugly custody battle. Everyone is gonna want that little girl now that she comes with a free ride for the rest of her life.

I didn't what to say this, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't thinking this.

What if this baby isn't his?

I'm considering applying for custody as well. It seems like it's a pretty good deal.

This could be a big thing here once the lawyers get involved.

Yeah, its not like the NFL is doing this out of the goodness of their heart--its part of the CBA. Although most life insurance has exclusions for suicide. It could be part of a survivor benefit related to his accrued pension. Just a guess.

ForeverChiefs58 12-05-2012 11:29 AM

I read somewhere in the 50 Belcher threads that he asked Pioli if him and Hunt would make sure his little girl was taken care of, before killing himself.

I doubt Pioli explained to him that the rules of the CBA already have this addressed, so I wonder about that, or if they are doing anything extra?

I just think there should be more done to speak out and help prevent both domestic abuse and mental illness, depression etc, as this is nothing new in the NFL or everyday life for some people dealing with it in every city.

Every tragedy needs something positive to help prevent it from happening again.
For instance, after DT died there was a big thing about wearing seatbelts, and I know it made me think about it and make sure everyone I knew was aware how it could save a life.

It would be a real positive if our team could take the lead in trying to fix this problem.

I am glad the little girl is taken care of, and wish all kids thrust into that type a situation could be taken care of as well.

htismaqe 12-05-2012 02:24 PM

Belcher's child will be supported by the NFLPA

Keitzman talking about it now.

Under the current CBA, she will get $9000 per month for the next 4 years. She will then get between $48K and $50K per year until she turns 18 (or 23 if she attends college).

I always wonder where the post goes when something like that happens. I wonder if your post is now orphaned in the DB somewhere.

I grew up being raised by my aunt and uncle. Never knew my Dad, and my Mom was in a severe car accident when I was a child and sustained major brain damage and was unable to raise me. I didn't get a dime, and I don't look back thinking "Boy, I'd give it all up to have my mommy again!" Life happens, and I was young enough to rebound from it, and I actually remember my mother. Zoey will never know who they are outside of pictures and reading the tragic tale.

wait, so milkman--not really your dad, or your uncle, or absentee father?

CoMoChief 12-05-2012 03:38 PM

It obviously doesn't replace not having parents around.

But that's a nice HS graduation present.

I think an extra $200-250K is worth going to college wouldn't u say?

but honestly how could you miss someone you never knew? How could you feel pain about someone you never knew? My parents got divorced when I was 4, have no memories of them being together, and I never once in my life was sad about them not being together because I never knew them together

so yeah...IMO this little girl, assuming she lands a rational guardian, sort of hit a baby jackpot

I have not gotten through the rest of this thread, but I feel compelled to respond to this.

I have no idea how I would view a divorce, but I lost my father before I had a chance to know him.

I still to this day, 50 years later, miss him.

I didn't know him, but I miss him.

Frazod 12-05-2012 04:01 PM

I assume she'll get social security death benefits on top of this, as well. My mom died when I was 17, and I got monthly checks from them until I turned 18.
