Westboro Meets Its Match: Thousands Sign Retaliatory Petitions Posted on: 11:57 am, December 17, 2012, by Sarah Clark, updated on: 04:24pm, December 17, 2012 KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Thousands have signed two separate petitions that would classify Topeka’s Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group and strip it of its tax exempt status. The petitions were started after members of Westboro announced plans to protest a Sunday vigil in Newtown, Conn. After Westboro Baptist Church spokesperson Shirey Phelps-Roper tweeted plans to protest the vigil, “to sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgement,” the hacktivist group known as “Anonymous” threatened the church via video. In it, an automated voice says, “We will not allow you to corrupt the minds of America with your seeds of hatred. We will not allow you to inspire aggression to the social faction which you deem inferior. We will render you obsolete. We will destroy you. We are coming.” In addition to the video, Anonymous hacked Westboro’s website and released personal information about church members including names, street addresses, phone numbers and email addresses according to CNET. Anonymous didn’t stop there. Using its Twitter account, Anonymous asked its followers to sign a petition that would investigate the IRS tax-exempt status of the church. As stated on the White House website, the petition claims: “The Westboro Baptist Church is better-known for homophobic displays, suing people and picketing funerals than for providing Christian care to a community. Due to their harassment and politicking, their IRS tax-exempt status should be immediately investigated.” A total of 16,062 signatures are needed before the White House will review the petition. As of noon on Monday, nearly 10,000 people had signed it. Another petition aims at stripping Westboro of its “religious” affiliation and classifying it as a hate group. As stated in part on the White House website, Westboro’s “actions have been directed at many groups, including homosexuals, military, Jewish people and even other Christians. They pose a threat to the welfare and treatment of others and will not improve without some form of imposed regulation.” Over 108,000 people have signed this petition, which surpasses the 25,000 needed for the White House to review it. |
^^^I sure hope they succeed. I was going to sign both petitions, but a "Whitehouse.gov account" is required to sign, and I am NOT gonna go there.

This is gon be good ya'll
The Westboro group is stupid enough to keep on keepin' on, so they're going to keep poking the hive of Anonymous. |
This should be the back breaker.
If they're stupid enough to picket small children....They deserve whatever terrible thing should happen to them and the people who do it should be celebrated. |
Anonymous is incredibly interesting to me. It's just like this nebulous thing. There's no real leader, not much in the way of organization, just a group of like minded internet users. And the number depends on the cause.

I have no problem with Anonymous going after them. Three cheers for them. However, I'd prefer that the federal government keep its ****ing nose out of it. It's none of their business. None.

I know the Phelps family well and they're not going to give up. They have a police guard with them just about every place they picket in Topeka. They also video the entire protest and have used that to garner some pretty good settlements. They do some creative editing, BTW. Sadly, the ones that can still practice law are very good attorneys and the ones that have been disbarred still have good legal minds. Where they live, or at least where most of them do, is no secret. They have the block bordered by SW 12th, Orleans St., Churchill Rd., and Cambridge Ave. in Topeka.

Just to be clear...this group of idiots does not represent the typical Baptist Church or God's teachings.
My church (Baptist) spent part of Sunday morning service praying for the victims famlies and told the congregation to continue to hold the families up in prayer. |

Ok, so i have stayed far away from this Church thing, but today (why i dont know) took the plunge and decided to read up on them and watch some youtube clips. HOLY CRAP That lady Shirley is batshit insane. She looks like a damned zombie no joke! she could start in the Walking Dead as a zombie and needs no make up!
Anyways, its just really sad what they put their Kids through. At least one of them woke up. That should be freaking mental abuse to a kid and they should be taken away by a social worker. |
Can we all just agree to not care anymore? That would really be their worst nightmare.

Ignoring them is not a solution. We are simply too decent to do that. There needs to be another way. Not sure Anonymous is it, but I can't say I'm upset about it...I'm human. Sue me. |

I don't think it's that hard to ignore anymore. When I first heard about this group I was fascinated with the insane logic and reasoning that they use. Now that I've seen the act play on for years it isn't nearly as interesting, and seems more like a mental disorder of some kind that the whole family shares. No use shouting at the rain. They are bat-shit crazy, and public outrage is a drug they are addicted to. |
Why don't all of us KC area planeteers just go join the WBC. We infiltrate it, then take it down.

give it a month and we would have them picketing each other they would be so dysfunctional. |
I wonder how WBC would feel if people were to start picketing the funderals of its members..

Everyone hates their guts, thats why i couldnt care less what they do as long as any victims dont have to see or hear them.
Rope them off in some far flung area every single time and let them prattle at each other, they'd probably get bored with it after a while anyway. |

Seems like I heard a story where they traveled somewhere to protest at a soldiers funeral. When they got there, local law enforcement thought they resembled a group that was wanted for questioning in some obscure petty crime. Of course it turned out not to be the same group, but still it took 2-3 hours to determine that... :D
