I still like Todd. I wish him the best. Big Ben is a baby.

stonedstooge 12-23-2012 07:02 PM

It'll be interesting to see how he does if given a 2nd chance at head coach. He showed some good things here, but had some major ****ups too. Especially that time management shit with the clock

He's not HC material. He's not mentally tough enough. Despite the gruff outward demeanor, guys that melt down like that, on national TV, lack willpower.

Is that like some kind of Tourette's Syndrome?

You are saying that it was his fail to be a hc/OC combo and I posted MC because he is probably the reason no good OCs wanted any part of that job in KC. ESPECIALLY when Pioli was adamant that Cassel was the starter and wouldn't bring in legit combination.

I'd bet almost anything that he hires a OC when he gets his next HC gig because people will actually want the job.

I'm telling you, Matt Cassel effected everything to do with the rest of the leagues perception with this team over the last 4 years...NOT Todd Haley as evidenced by the Steelers forcing Arians out to hire Haley and him being in HC talks after one year there.

Let me take it one step further...I wouldn't be the least but surprised to hear Haley turn down HC offers this offseason to stay in Pittsburgh another year and wait for a perfect opportunity to come about because he knows how the rest of the league thinks of him.

No, you interpreted that wrong/I worded it poorly.

When I said "draw attention to himself" I meant the tirades and outbursts. It had nothing to do with the X's and O's - I actually think he's pretty good at those.

That powerhouse Steeler team that is always in the playoffs missed the playoffs

Hell yeah Todd, that's what I'm talking about

Yea the team that has been dwindling year after year. The team we almost beat with Tyler Palko last year. Yup, it's all on Todd.

Keep trying.

And I wouldn't be surprised if the Steelers fired him after 1 year there.

You've got a coach who didn't want him. A QB who didn't want him. The #1 defense in the league. With the 22nd ranked offense in the league.

Haley sucks and yet dumbass threads like this get bumped because people continue to swing from his sack like he was some genius in KC who didn't get to maximize his potential.

Everyone wants to talk about Roethlisbergers picks at the end of the game to lose. Yet no one wants to mention the whopping 10 point plan whipped up by Haley.

You're an idiot. Haley isn't going to be fired and the offense isn't a disaster there. He hasn't been an offensive mastermind, but there are far bigger problems than Haley in Pittsburgh. And it starts with your idiotic claim that Haley is losing games behind a top notch defense. The defensive decline is one of the biggest reasons the Steelers aren't the Steelers.

And Haley was hired for a specific reason. Because Big Ben is 30 and can't afford to play in an aerial offense anymore and they can't afford to have Big Ben exposed as he's been in the past to get clobbered. Despite Ben's injury, he's been knocked around a whole lot less this year and even crappy linemen are blocking with much better technique, just as we saw in Kansas City. Haley isn't going to get fired.

Okay, captain "I read the stats pages." You're probably the same person who read Matt Cassel's stats page and said he had a pro bowl year in 2009 because he had healthy yards and few INTs.

Go tell any smart Steelers fan they have a #1 defense. See how much they laugh in your face.
-The Steelers have been ranked in the top TWO in points defense 5 times out of 6. This year, they're ranked TEN. They dropped ten spots.
-Their defense typically creates 25 takeaways a year. For the first time ever, they are on pace to not hit even close to 20. In fact, they are in the bottom 5 in takeaways

jd1020 12-24-2012 08:54 AM

Damn yo!

They are 10th in points?

Thats a killer right there. Clearly why they aren't going to the playoffs.

Nothing to do with that terrible 22nd ranked offense they have... nothing!

But the offense is more "efficient," keep Haley! He's doing a bang up job!

WWWWOOOOOWWWW!!!

You want to have a smart conversation about why the Steelers are struggling instead of the herpderp "Haley is new. Steelers not win. Haley make Steeler not win" argument?

Defense isn't dominant anymore -- they're losing more games than usual and not taking the ball away. Injuries on offense -- Mendenhall has missed most of the season, they lost Willie Colon, David DeCastro, and Mike Adams all year long. Those were guys expected to be starters, and so you now have two scrubs starting in the interior line and a late round rookie starting at right tackle. Fumbles -- you can't explain it, but they have twice as many fumbles than in most years. 6 of those 20 fumbles came from backup RBs. Maybe that's on Haley. I don't know.

And sorry... but while I think Big Ben is a terrific player, his M.O. has ALWAYS been that he does just enough to win a game, and he is elite in his ability to do that. In the last 2 losses, in the Steelers' last drive, Big Ben had the ball and threw an open pass poorly and right into the hands of the receiver. I don't think Ben is 100% right now in his throwing arm. But those INTs are not bad playcalling. That's on the QB and those are throws Ben almost always completes.

jd1020 12-24-2012 08:59 AM

All these excuses for Haley's failing.

When he was in KC: "Haley just needs a QB to be successful."

Insert the Steelers and Roethlisberger (he still sucks): [Insert excuse after excuse.]

But, but, but... Haley >>>> Crennel.

Good job Haley! Here's your Special Olympics gold medal!

They were ranked 21st in offense last year. And they are ranked 21st in offense because they lost their thousand yard rushing RB and three out of 5 of their offensive linemen which, more than anything, led to a horrible run offense that was ranked 24th in the league.

Big Ben, by the way, was on pace to have career numbers in yards, TDs, and least amount of INTs and sacks before he got injured. But of course, this offense is poison to Big Ben.

If you watched games and didn't rely on stats pages, you'll see that the o-line is blocking with better technique but lousy backup talent are getting crushed. A lot of problems get solved by the time getting healthier or getting better depth.

jd1020 12-24-2012 09:03 AM

Balls deep on Haley.

Sad.

Haley was fired because of a poor 2010. In that season, he was given cassel and jamaal Charles was out. So yes, it's ridiculous to expect a team that is solely reliant on Matt cassel to win games.

In Pittsburgh... The steelers have always been a close game team. Their defense is slipping and they're missing three starters on the offensive line blocking for running backs in what is now a bottom 10 running game.

These are not excuses. These are reasons. And the fact that you would throw Romeo in here, even though Haley was clearly better shows how much of a hater you are.

I have never said Haley was a great coach. I'm defending against idiots like you that believe Haley did everything wrong and that deny that he hasn't had a lot of bad breaks outside of his control that limited his success.

The only truth is that Haley is terrible.

Just because you are too blind/stupid to see the obvious doesn't make this world all black or all white.

TitchCity 01-03-2013 09:17 AM

They just asked for permission, I think it would be a huge mistake if the AZ Cards were to hire him. IMO Ray Horton should be their top candidate.
