Stanzi should be gone.

Who said Cassel is gone? If Pioli is still here, Cassel is at least our back up next year.

Cassel just got benched for the 2nd half of the season and is set to make 7.5M next year.

Do the math yourself.

You can bet Breer will try to be the first one to break the news when Pioli is out.

Sniveling little bitches.

Marty Mac Ver 2.0 12-29-2012 01:17 AM

The Banks article was disappointing. Don is a better writer than that.

ImAWalkingCorpse 12-29-2012 07:36 AM

This just shows how Clark is keeping this very close, the only person that knows what is going to happen is Clark, and maybe if he has a dog or something at home that he probably yelled at "For a taking a Pioli on the carpet".

Jayhawk Chief 12-29-2012 07:53 AM

If Pioli stays the odds of the Chiefs eventually leaving KC increases. Hunt has reached a fork in the road with his family's investment. If he doesn't clean house he will have abandoned the fans and they will return the favor. The word is out about Pioli's insecurities and he will continue to not be able to attract the Peyton Mannings and Jeff Fishers.

The Chiefs are a dying franchise. Pioli is our Kervorkian.

BlackHelicopters 12-29-2012 07:57 AM

Never heard of this person.

ChiliConCarnage 12-29-2012 08:26 AM

Breer's an annoying Ohio State homer as well.

Saw this on twitter
The KC Chiefs have the largest payroll in NFL and worst record. Is that equivalent to a 0-16 for a GM?

There is no way Pioli is coming back unless the extension rumors were true. You can't send a lame duck GM out to hire a new coach. They'd just be sifting through the trash

So now people are aware of our high payroll?

Probably one of the same people who insisted we suck because Clark is cheap 2 months ago.

InChiefsHeaven 12-29-2012 08:53 AM

I seriously wonder why Pioli would even WANT to be back. Pride only goes so far. He knows everyone in KC thinks he's a POS. His record is against him. I would think the guy would want to be done.

That is my question as well.

I would think that, at this point, Dr. Evil would be more than happy to move back to what he considers civilization (see East Coast). Of course, he has demonstrated an almost unfathomable capacity to keep doing a very stupid thing in order to prove himself right, so maybe not.

You and I know this but Clark may not because maybe in his mind there WAS enough negative fodder going around about Pioli prior to the hiring that he chose to ignore and now he is paying the price for it and really doesn't want to own it.

Just have to hope he is out to prove a point that he is a good owner but doing the smart things instead of proving it by showing he doesn't make mistakes.

i've said all along imo it's about 40% chance that Pioli stays

But i also didnt' think the Chiefs would fire anyone before the season was over.

Why fire coaches and have to assign interim coaches for a few games if you are going to clean house?

we just don't know yet.

I just hope that Clark already has a plan in place and doesn't wait until the end of the season to start. He took too dam long last time and it hurt our ability to get coaches and scouts.

Marty Schottenheimer: No desire to coach, offers advice

Marty Schottenheimer says he has no desire to coach again and that contrary to reports he was not in Kansas City on Friday

Schottenheimer, 69, guided the Chiefs to seven playoff berths and three division titles during a 10-year reign

Marty Schottenheimer says he has no desire to coach again and that contrary to reports he was not in Kansas City on Friday.

But the most successful coach in Kansas City Chiefs history told USA TODAY Sports on Saturday that he has indeed been in constant contact with Chiefs owner Clark Hunt and within the past few days lent encouragement to embattled coach Romeo Crennel.

"I stay in touch with the Hunt family," Schottenheimer said from his home outside Charlotte, during a phone interview on Saturday. "Of late, I've called to encourage them for whatever they're doing. They've got a lot of young players. And they're working their butts off."

Schottenheimer is aware of a rumor, started by a caller on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Friday, that maintained he was at Arrowhead Stadium meeting with Hunt, who took over the Chiefs after his father and franchise founder Lamar Hunt passed away in 2006.

The Chiefs, heading into Monday night's game at the Pittsburgh Steelers with a 1-7 record, are engulfed by speculation that Crennel and general manager Scott Pioli could be fired. Hunt has not publicly addressed the issue. Pioli was unavailable when USA TODAY Sports attempted to make contact on Saturday.

Schottenheimer, 69, guided the Chiefs to seven playoff berths and three division titles during a 10-year reign from 1989-98, when he posted a 101-58-1 record.

Considering his legacy in Kansas City, Chiefs fans were buzzing with Friday's erroneous report. Schottenheimer last coached in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers in 2007. He also had head coaching stints with the Cleveland Browns and Washington Redskins.

Would Schottenheimer return?

"Life is good," he said. "I just feel badly because I have great affection for the Hunt family and the Kansas City Chiefs. Those were the best 10 years of my career. But I think the world of Romeo Crennel."

Schottenheimer is not lobbying for the job, yet realizes the "hot seat" speculation in many situations across the league is intensifying.

"Scorched earth!" he said.

He compiled a 200-126-1 career regular season mark, but was undone by playoff failures. No coach who hasn't been to a Super Bowl has more career victories than Schottenheimer, who also had a 5-13 playoff record.

He wishes teams would exhibit more patience before making front office and coaching moves.

What did he tell Crennel?

" 'Hang in there, brother,' " Schottenheimer said. "I have deep affection for him and the Chiefs, so I'm disappointed. But you've got to keep going, put one foot in front of the other."

Schottenheimer says he also knows and supports Pioli, the embattled GM.

"The thing is, it's a young team," he said. "It's tough right now. I have confidence they'll get it done."

If not, Schottenheimer and Hunt will have plenty to talk about.
