I was with you until this comment. Trent Green wasn't a singing and dancing frog. Trent Green played great in that playoff game against The Peytons. Had it not been for our turnstile defense, Gonzo's BS offensive pass interference that wiped off a TD, and Priest's fumble we would have won that game. I dont count the 2nd playoff game against the Peytons under Herm, Trent's brain was already scrambled by then.

If we wouldn't have wasted an entire half running LJ for none yards and a cloud of dust we might have had a chance in that game as well...

I wasn't sure about the origin. But I know that Walsh and Montana made it NFL vogue in SF, and that was my point.

It appears the short term plan is to stablize the franchise. I t doesn't appear Clark/Dorsey/Reid was willing to take another chance on a slow rebuild again. Basically another 3 or 4 win season. Can't risk losing more of the fanbase.

I have been a fan of this team, this uniform, since their Super Bowl win. I have lived through the hopelessness of the late70s-80s and the hopeful 90s and early 00s. Bottom line is it's the name, the logo and the uniform you stay loyal to. People who fill those uniforms come and go. We can only hope that one of these times, finally the right group of people will fill them and we will see glory again. Any deviation from that degree of loyalty disqualifies one from calling himself a fan.

Wrong. Alex Smith played great in weeks one and two last year. Week one at green bay, and two at home on sunday night football vs the lions. He played GREAT in both of those games. So sit down, and shut up. Your lies wont be tolerated.
Pretty much the way I figure it anyways. If he does well, ie the team is winning, babies will cry and say that the rest of the team is carrying him. Which, is pretty much typical.

If he's doing well, it MEANS that the team is carying him.

lol, if you say so. I like the fact that Alex Smith has no ego when it comes down to checking to a run, or throwing a pass to a guy short and giving him a chance to make a play. That's just me. Shrugs. The big play is nice, but keeping the other offense off the field, is just as nice. Especially when you have as good of pass rushers as you guys do, the more time their offense has to spend trying to hurry up and score, the better off you will be.

Flipping the ball short to a guy - the checkdown pass - has its place. But on third down? All it really leads to is a team that punts. A lot.

That's fine if you have a truly elite defense. It's unlikely Alex Smith will have such a luxury in his time in KC.

We wont know that until the season starts. No one thought the 49ers defense heading into 2011 was going to be elite either.
