If Denver has Wes Welker, Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker, would make sense for KC to have Sean Smith, Dunta Robinson and Brandon Flowers.

He's right; pretty outstanding counter-punch.

Flowers can deal with Decker, who's a technician as a route-runner but isn't physically overpowering. Smith would be a nice counter to Thomas in that he's one of the few guys in the league with the size to match up with him who also has the athleticism to hang with him. Robinson is a great matchup for Welker in that he's physical enough to knock him off routes and spend the day beating him up if necessary (Abdullah then plays FS).

I hadn't looked at it in terms of pure matchups, but the Chiefs secondary actually would match up pretty well vs. the Broncos WRs.

I expect the next signing to be Maualuga or Dansby honestly. I'd hate to think with all of this swinging around, that they'd miss a solid ILB subordinate to DJ.

Guaranteed money is likely around 10-12.

Lots of talent; if we gamble on him and give him good money, I hope we at least have him on a 4-year deal so we can reap the benefits of unlocking that ability (or bail after 3 if necessary).

I'm gonna go with 4/$25.

I'll personally go for Geno. No doubt.

But they might view it differently, they could trade down and take another player, they could draft an LT (which is a travesty imo, but I wouldn't put Dorsey and Ried in the same galaxy as ***** or Carl, yet, and I wouldn't call the Alex Smith Casselesque in any measure).

People are really under rating the Abdullah signing. IMO, he'll have more of an impact than Robinson.

Marco Polo 03-14-2013 12:04 PM

Chiefs agreed to terms with CB Sean Smith, formerly of the Dolphins, on a three-year contract.

The news — which was first "reported" by Smith's former teammate Vontae Davis two weeks ago — comes via Smith's agent. He joins Brandon Flowers and Dunta Robinson to form one of the league's better cornerback trios, though Robinson could still end up at safety. It's the same failed strategy Andy Reid adopted in Philadelphia, but he's willing to give it a second chance as division-rival Denver transforms itself into an offensive colossus. Regardless of where Robinson plays, Smith will bookend Flowers on the outside. The Chiefs might not be ready to compete for a playoff spot, but are going to be a far tougher out in 2013.

Fyi, while we wait to see what Sean Smith got $-wise, a note that CB Dunta Robinson got $13.8m from KC not $15m as I'd seen elsewhere.

This will make the draft more interesting... look for Reid to go after playmakers on both sides... with fewer holes to fill.

Exactly.

I don't see any way they don't trade down at this point. With Hudson's injury and Allen's suspect play last year, not to mention Lilja's retirement, the Chiefs clearly need to take some linemen, no question. And while I think it's pretty apparent that O-Line is probably where they're going with their first, I can't imagine they aren't going to take a 'bad' trade down which would allow them to get yet another potential interior lineman in the 2nd.

They have to be maxed on the cap and they still have 3 clear holes (ILB, RT and either C/G...maybe both). They need the ammo in the trade down to fill those holes in the draft.

They can't just take Joeckel and call it a day; they're going to need another immediate contributor and I think they'd be fine moving down, taking Lane Johnson and then adding that 2nd round pick as an absolute worst case scenario.
