Gal friend of mines son found $1600 worth in 2 day.

TLO 05-10-2013 01:13 PM

Thinking about going out and looking here after while. Is it too late in the season?

Graystoke 05-10-2013 01:48 PM

Went looking last nite. Found nothing. Thinking its a day or two early still in Northeast Iowa.

If we don't get some serious rain it's going to be yet another shitty year for them here.

TribalElder 04-12-2014 11:04 AM

They might be up this week

I need to make a few calls and find out before I go and waste my time

Ready for the annual morel feast

MTG#10 04-12-2014 11:17 AM

Just talked to my cousin in southern OK, he said he found a few last week.

TLO 04-12-2014 11:37 AM

I found a couple very, very small ones here in NW Missouri yesterday. Popped up in my parents yard. Hopefully we can some good rain, and warm weather soon.

srvy 04-12-2014 11:57 AM

There for sure out there. One of the crews working at Iatan Power plant near Weston Missouri brought in a 1 bound freezer bag chock full. They found them as usual on the Federal side of the 500 year Missouri River levee on the grassy 3:1 slope near edge of timber line. This was without much effort after they ate there lunch.

I fry them in a beer batter but like just as much sauteed in butter.

You can hunt them around all the usual places we all say. When the may apples pop near a steep creek bank, near dead trees especially elms. But what I have found is a morel will grow wear it damn pleases. I run into patches where I least expect them in open in tall grass. I once was about to hose down my central AC unit by the side my house. Right in the dirt next to the concrete pad was a morel. Looked a little more found 5 or 6 more in the grass slope away from the house. All I could figure is a few days befor I found a mess at work came home in my work duds and mowed the lawn. Must have had some spores on me. Havent found them there since.

Not here yet, soil temp just got to 58 degrees, and that was with the help of a 84 degree day yesterday. Also more than 2 inches below normal moisture. Sucks.

TribalElder 04-21-2014 01:13 PM

I found a small one but ties should be good

I mowed for the first time this year last weekend.
Had dandelions and wild onions standing a foot tall and the rest of my lawn is still dormant.

A buddy and I went and tromped around for three hours and covered some decent ground yesterday. Found jack shit.

I guess I did find four ticks though. So I got that going for me.

Renegade 04-12-2015 10:04 AM

Found 6 yesterday, saw a bunch more starting to pop up. Should be in full swing in 2 days.

SAUTO 04-17-2015 01:41 PM

A guy brought me probably a hundred and fifty this morning. Went to pick up an employee for work this morning and we picked 57 in his front yard.

They are rolling.

bsp4444 04-17-2015 01:43 PM

I'm headed out this evening to look.

Radar Chief 04-17-2015 01:55 PM

I may go out between rains and search some tomorrow.
Looked around for a couple of hours while out Jeeping last weekend and didn't see a damn thing. Cept for ticks, found plenty of those.

cmh6476 04-17-2015 03:32 PM

in the bluffs down by Rushville found a couple pounds today. A lot of them were the bigger yellow ones

TribalElder 04-17-2015 03:42 PM

I found some yesterday

Not large yet but probably next week they will be. Supposed to rain this weekend so look out Monday

Fish 04-17-2015 03:43 PM

This wet weekend will have them exploding....

stonedstooge 04-17-2015 03:57 PM

I found 4 that had been up awhile up north of Kansas City at the 3 corners

Bob Dole 04-17-2015 04:11 PM

Had a high school buddy in SWMO post a photo of huge haul earlier this week.

Kman34 04-17-2015 04:19 PM

Found about 25 in a 50FT square area today in Liberty...Medium sized yellows... More rain will got them popping more...

bsp4444 04-17-2015 08:13 PM

Found 7. Going again tomorrow.

Dunerdr 04-17-2015 08:19 PM

Sandy soil and dead trees. River or creek bottoms are always good places to look

bsp4444 04-18-2015 10:47 AM

Found one nice one before it started hailing. Calling it a day until tomorrow .

kccrow 04-19-2015 01:31 AM

I hope all the people who are delivering you guys Morels in plastic bags aren't carrying them out of the woods like that? Won't be a spore that hits the ground....

Dunerdr 04-19-2015 02:31 AM

Did some looking while turkey hunting today. Through I nice wet area along a river with several creeks and streams running through. No luck I assume I probably missed some. I hear it's hard to pick out the first one then it gets easy after that?

I always look for the color of the mushrooms. Seems to be a color that doesn't match it's surroundings. And yes, once you see 1, it seems like others will magically appear before your eyes

I love mushrooms. Having a big salad tonight with shrooms.

There's an auction house here locally where people will bring morels to sell. It's the only place I've seen where you can buy them.

Of course, you have to inspect before you buy, to be sure they're still good.

If they aren't using a sack with holes, such as an onion bag, then they are doing it wrong. I don't care how long they've been doing it. That's what I'm saying. Perhaps your guys are doing it right. Putting shit in plastic bags and buckets out in the woods destroys hope of high yield future crops because the spores aren't being released to the ground. That's the whole deal in a nutshell.

You are telling me anything I haven't known since I was a kid.

My people want their kids to be able to go to our old spots. That's why we don't tell out of towers where we go...

And real hillbillies aren't gonna leave a trail from the truck to the hole... Leave the spores there.

I think they have it covered

I don't care for them. Because of their texture. My former in laws in Iowa would pick-em out there and serve them. Meh! Not bad, not great.

JOPLIN, Mo. -
Morel mushroom hunters across Jasper County say they've noticed the fungi popping up earlier than usual this year.

Ron Cook, the administrator of the Missouri Morel Hunting Facebook page says his followers have already reported sightings in the state. The Kansas City-area resident has created a map with the reports, which indicate a progression line of morels appearing from St. Joseph to St. Louis.

Ike Wortman, a hunter from Webb City, says that he found 63 morel mushrooms in a 30-by-30-foot area on his family's farms in McDonald County. Skylar Outt, a hunter from Reeds, reported a find on her first day hunting in Jasper County.

The Missouri Department of Conservation says prime morel habitat is near dead or fallen trees or along river bottoms.
