Once again, beer + self-rising flour = Total win. Why mess with perfection?

Whoever thought creaming in your bread was a good idea....:shake:
:Lin:

Msmith 05-05-2013 07:46 PM

Okay, the bread came out meh. My kids didn't like it. My wife earlier said about giving thanks on everything also gave a thumb down.

But this is a bread, not a brownie. Next time, I will put some more sugar to sweet it up. The texture is almost like a brownie, crunchy outside but soft inside.

Then our neighbor, a young couple, dropped by. The wife loved it. (maybe due to courtesy?)

Well, that's good.

Bread is perhaps my favorite food, and ice cream ranks very high as well. I'm just not convinced that they mix.

Simply Red 05-05-2013 07:48 PM

I hate to say it - but when you're creaming the ice cream w/ a mixer - i'd add some sugar - sounds like that's the problem.

Simply Red 05-05-2013 07:53 PM

again, I'd cream the ice cream first and then add sugar and then add the flour rather slowly, be sure you don't over mix, or your bread will be dry.

Simply Red 05-05-2013 08:00 PM

if you don't have a hand-mixer then just use your cock.

I would hope there would be a better way to increase flavor then just adding sugar

Groves 05-06-2013 08:12 AM

Just so it's out there, you can make your own "self-rising flour", by adding 1.5tsp baking powder and .5tsp salt to a regular cup of flour.

Oh, you can also make your own baking powder by mixing....meh, too deep already.

Dave Lane 05-06-2013 10:52 AM

OK I'm trying this with Cherry Garcia ice cream (1 pint) and I added some dried cherries and pecan pieces. Also a dash of oil and a squirt of sugar free mocha and a bit of stevia. And yes I can never leave well enough alone but from the sounds of the other recipes this needed it.

MTG#10 05-06-2013 10:57 AM

The whole point of this is that its a simple 2 ingredient recipe. If you have to add other shit like sugar, etc. it kind of defeats the purpose.

Msmith 05-06-2013 01:03 PM

Except it turns out dry or bland.

Mine was very sweet and not dry at all.

Kinda like a less intense brownie

Got some strawberry ice cream thawing now

Hammock Parties 05-06-2013 04:36 PM

Bread is meh as ****.

I can't even taste the chocolate.

It's decent for spreading nutella on. More than regular bread, I guess.

But I'd rather just eat ice cream.

Verdict: Edible, but meh.

Guessing it has more to do with loading it down with flour.

Hootie 05-06-2013 05:41 PM

are you guys really arguing about who's ice cream bread looks better?

AustinChief 05-06-2013 05:42 PM

my guess is that it would need an egg or two, some sugar and some vanilla extract(or other flavor extract). if you want it to be more flavorful or brownie like.

In typical CP sidetracked fashion I took this post to heart and I now have my first loaf of beer bread in the oven right now.

Homemade bread made with home brew.

What about those M&Ms cookie dough truffles.

Can someone make those and tell me if they are good?!

Stick to beer bread, holy cow this is good. I threw in some fresh chopped jalapeno for good measure. I used a Belgian Double Blonde home brew (think Duvel) for the beer.

Dud e, that looks delicious!

RainMaker 05-06-2013 07:58 PM

My first attempt was similar in height to the pictures on the previous page but much more dense, like sawdust. I think there were two parts, possibly three where I could have improved the results. One, choose a quality ice-cream with eggs, cream, milk and sugar as their main ingredients. Two, don't over mix - I did. Three, make sure that you use self-rising flour - I didn't. I read the other forums that were linked and many said that the bread wasn't as sweet as what they wanted. I added some concentrated sucralose (1/4 or a tad bit more) but that left me wondering if that helped change the texture.

Overall, I like the taste of the bread. It's the right amount of sweetness and even the wife has helped me eat the first loaf. Sadly, I've never posted pictures on the internet but, fwiw, it looks like sawdust packed together in the shape of a small loaf of bread. I'd put banana-nut bread, cinnamon-raisin bread and carrot cake above this. But, it's not that bad...and the preparation time was fast.

RainMaker

Simply Red 05-06-2013 09:57 PM

Yes - don't over mix - and I'd be sure you cream the ice-cream, prior. Like I said.

Kidd Lex 05-06-2013 10:33 PM

Made two loaves exactly as the recipe states with Reese's ice cream. What a waste of good ice cream. My prego wife wouldn't even eat it, nor would my 3 year old. Awful, took pics but not worth my time to post, imagine two 8 by 4 turds. Voila.

Simply Red 05-06-2013 11:22 PM

Not as directed, it wouldn't. I creamed the ice cream, I sifted the flour, and I was certain to not over mix. Mine was not a problem with texture. The flavor sucked.
