NoSoQuick yikes!
|
Wow...that two of those kinds of plays in two days. That's impressive.
|
Avs go to 3-0 for the first time in the (Colorado) history. How the hell does that happen?

So, I just saw Hertl's goal and.....wow. That is.....wow. In his third game in the NHL, he did THAT?! If you haven't seen it:
http://i.imgur.com/wahiHvv.gif I imagine that the Rangers are going to want a bit of come-up-'ns in the rematch back in New York for that. Nevertheless, that goal dropped my jaw. The NHL is the only sport I watch where I can still be in stunned amazement at some of the things these players can do. Occasionally, the NFL might pull something out, but it's a nightly occurrence in the NHL. The Sharks have something special here. |
That was just plain awesome.
|
And that was his 4th of the night. Kind of reminded me of this goal, yet completely different...

Blues!!!! 3-2 over the Hawks. Steen scores with 21 seconds left in the game.
|
Damn that was a shitty ending for the Hawks. Good game though, Blues.. always some exciting games when we meet.

That's a game we have lost to them in the past couple of seasons. It's usually Toews or Kane throwing in some shit goal with 20 seconds left. Nice to see it go our way for a change.
Pretty sure Steen hit that puck so hard that it entered Crawford's mouth and shot straight out of his ass. EAT A DICK, CHICAGO 4321 |
Wow...an Avs goalie stealing a game? I'd forgotten what that's like.

Do folks seriously think Patrick Roy is a legitimate long-term option? Someone like Tortorella is merely angry. Patrick Roy, on the other hand, is legitimately unhinged. The guy's just !@#$ing crazy and has been as long as he's been in the league. Angry might work. Crazy can't. It still blows my mind that they hired that guy as their head coach. |

Sounds like something we'd have heard from Chiefs fans in 2009...
I feel like you guys just hired Todd Haley on skates. |

Want to trade Roy for Trotz?

There should be a pool on who Roy will fight first, coach or player...you know it's coming.
Damn near happened on opening night... |

Continuing the theme of strange goals in the NHL this year.

Max Lapierre is a puss.
Also, how can the Oilers amass so many first round picks and still suck so much ass? |

And the answer to both would be terrible defense/goaltending.
|
|
I can't tell if that was luck or if he actually was able to react to the stick motion to get his leg up in the air.
|
Welp, nothing you can do against goaltending like that from Jiggy.
Just have to tip your hat and move on.... |
Thought the Avs did a nice job not giving any room to the Pens. Also bad middle ice play leading to the goal.
|
Not sure if Niemi read it, but figured he knew Bertuzzi could get the puck up from where he was at and had to take the chance.
Quote:
I'm glad Landeskog scored right out of the box... the penalty looked like BS as the Pen practically threw himself into the boards. Jokinen had a nice dive, too. |
Have I mentioned how bizarrely similar the Avs and Chiefs are so far this year? It's kind of creeping me out that my two teams that were both pathetic last year are leaders in their respective leagues (so far).
|
Matt Duchene. Good lord.
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5545/1...78b578d9_o.gif He was DOMINANT tonight. |

I fell in love with the avs around the late ninties. I grew up watching Roy, Blake *username*, sakic, forsberg, foote, deadmarsh, yelle, drury, tanguay etc.. i lost track of them and hockey in general since most of the guys retired and the team sucked..developed a little love for San jose since im a cali guy.. but it's so nice to see my avs doing good again!

Semyon Varlamov, starting goaltender for the Colorado Avalanche, on Wednesday was arrested for domestic violence-related charges, the Denver Police Department said.
Police arrested Varlamov on second-degree kidnapping and third-degree assault charges, police said. The assault charge is a Class 4 felony charge; the kidnapping charge is a misdemeanor. The police charges stem from an incident on Tuesday, police said. Varlamov turned himself into police voluntarily earlier in the day, police said. He remains in Denver County jail, police said. The Avs issued a statement about the arrest: "The Colorado Avalanche organization is aware of the allegations concerning Semyon Varlamov. At this time, and until the conclusion of this investigation, the Avalanche organization will have no further comment on this situation." Varlamov is 7-1 as a starting goalie this season for the Avs, his third season in Colorado. He is among the NHL leaders in goals-against average and save percentage this season. The Avs are schedule to play next on Friday, at Dallas against the Stars. Huh. That sucks. Hopefully it ends up being more minor than it sounds. Denver Post is saying second-degree kidnapping and third-degree assault charges.

The class 4 felony kidnapping charge means someone was taken without their consent. That charge carries 2-6 years in prison #Varmalov |

Avalanche Acquires Maxime Talbot Center Helped Penguins Win 2009 Stanley Cup Thursday, 10.31.2013 / 1:27 PM / News The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has acquired forward Maxime Talbot from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for forward Steve Downie. Talbot, 29, has appeared in all 11 games for the Flyers this year, tallying a goal and one assist. A native of Lemoyne, Quebec, Talbot has recorded 77 goals and 77 assists for 154 points in 515 career games between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. He has also skated in 77 career playoff games, totaling 39 points (18g/21a). “Maxime is a veteran forward who has won a Stanley Cup and has a lot of NHL experience,” said Avalanche Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Joe Sakic. “We’re looking forward to him bringing that experience to our club.” Talbot helped the Penguins win the 2009 Stanley Cup after tallying 13 points (8g/5a) in 24 postseason games that spring. He scored both goals in Pittsburgh’s 2-1 series-clinching victory over the Red Wings in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final at Detroit. Selected by Pittsburgh in the eighth round (234th overall) of the 2002 Entry Draft, Talbot spent his first six seasons with the Penguins before signing with Philadelphia as a free agent on July 1, 2011. |
And apparently Varlamov kicked his girlfriend in the chest, dragged her by the hair (kidnapping? ), and told her if they were in Russia, the beating would have been worse.
In Soviet Russia, girlfriend beats you! |
Yeah, my guess is he ends up with some ugly legal wrangling, but that his career isn't impacted all that much in the end. Here's a chunk from a Puck Daddy article about it:

NHLN says a Russian media outlet is reporting the Varlamov arrest is a conspiracy to prevent Russia from winning gold in the Olympics.
LMAO |
If you had any doubt the Flyers are the Raiders of the NHL, here you go. Apparently Flyers goalie Emery was named 3rd star of the game. He finished with 4 goals allowed and 11 saves.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/S0mZAk6wMSM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
LMAO
I don't know how the Flyers are so bad... well, except for goaltending. And they're probably one of the older teams in the league, too. |
Quote:
Emery's a punk. Holtby wanted no part of that scrap. He belongs on that shit team. |
The video's gone, but here's a gif:
http://i.minus.com/i8Qsnn53cB40D.gif That's just some pure bush league bullshit. Goalie fights are fun and all, but you don't go at a guy who doesn't want any part of it and then pummel the back of his ****ing head. Emery needs to be suspended for a LONG time, and that ref needs to be fired for sitting back and watching. |
I'm seriously pissed off about that as I've watched it. I'm not for getting rid of fighting in the NHL, but that is NOT what fighting is meant for. :shake:
|
Here's a full video of the incident:
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/JAxCoA6u0os" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The key part starts about 37s in. I'm still fired up about it. |
On a happier note, Lehtonen completely robbed Mitchell last night. Insane.

Have fun at the game. I'm considering going to watch the Avs take on Ovi and the Caps tomorrow night, but haven't decided yet. :hmmm: |

Alex Steen is in total beast mode.

Ouch... I guess a let down was inevitable. Nice ass kicking.
|
Blues are putting on an ass kicking in the second period. 4 goals.
|
Jesus - that game took a turn, didn't it?
Love seeing the Blues come up big in a 'test' game. This was a pretty big early-season matchup. |
Couple of good fights now in the game. Damn this would be a fun one to be at Scottrade.
|
Reaves just put a beat down on McCloud.
|
I'm done with this one. You guys have fun.
|
Duchene's only fought twice in his career. Both times against Sobotka.
|
Superman Steen.
|
So, about those Avs...
|
hay,
no icing go blues |
Great game tonight between Boston and St. Louis.
Though in looking at the standings, can we just tell the East to take the season off? That league is just getting bombed by the West. The Bruins have the best record in the East - the friggen #1 seed - and they wouldn't even make the playoffs coming out of the West right now. That's incredible. |
