Catchers will adjust and give a sliding lane. In the future we won't see this challenged much.

TLO 04-30-2014 07:18 PM

Apparently he was ou? IWhatever.

chefsos 04-30-2014 07:18 PM

Hell, the BJs PBP guy is saying he blocked the plate...

tboss27 04-30-2014 07:19 PM

Just take the rule out of the game if that's not blocking the plate. It's going to take someone blowing up a catcher to be safe in that situation.

SPchief 04-30-2014 07:19 PM

That's crap

Ceej 04-30-2014 07:19 PM

Dumb ****ing rule.

SPchief 04-30-2014 07:19 PM

Just start sliding into the catcher then

petegz28 04-30-2014 07:19 PM

so we have the rule to not enforce it?

You get to see Ventura pitch at Baltimore?

**** it, live and learn, next time plow into him...

I agree there...**** it..

lewdog 04-30-2014 07:20 PM

That makes no sense in any understanding of that rule.

Great Expectations 04-30-2014 07:21 PM

What would the ruling have been if Hosmer's slide went into the catcher's shin guard?

TLO 04-30-2014 07:21 PM

I feel like that's a rule that nobody really understands. So they said **** it, and stood with the original call made.

The interpretation from home plate umpire to home plate umpire is going to be different.

petegz28 04-30-2014 07:22 PM

Whoever in New York made that call doesn't understand that rule very well

Kyle DeLexus 04-30-2014 07:22 PM

How is the FSKC audio feed for everyone?

Nah, I was working. Probably just as well...but the kid dominated, no doubt.

Agree... Not a fan of the rule, but somebody needs to explain what about that wasn't blocking the plate.

Now, if they say it's because the throw beat him by a mile, so be it, but his foot was setup in front of the plate and he never moved it.

Purely a guess, but if that would have happened, they call him safe in NY.

Seems fine.

GloryDayz 04-30-2014 07:24 PM

As long as we're making new rules, how about three throws to first during an at-bat equals a ball..

stonedstooge 04-30-2014 07:25 PM

Tried the old quick pitch

tboss27 04-30-2014 07:25 PM

I understand no ump wants to be the first one to call that on the catcher, but they are making a joke out of the rule. If I was a catcher I'd camp right in front of the plate until someone figured out it's going to take collisions to be safe. The thing I hate about it is if Hos runs him over there, I think Hos gets called out even if he drops the ball. They have made the catcher as sacred as an NFL quarterback, the baserunner has no options except to run around from behind and hope the throw isn't there.

petegz28 04-30-2014 07:26 PM

Well, should have had a run there....think the Umps got it wrong

chefsos 04-30-2014 07:26 PM

Ah, I forgot Balkin' Bob was there!

I can hear Hud, so it sucks in that way. But it makes me want to have your Avatar sit on may face for some reason...

Mr. Laz 04-30-2014 07:27 PM

I'm running the catcher over next time.

straight down the baseline ... if he's in my way, i truck him

SPchief 04-30-2014 07:27 PM

I'll take a nice 7 pitch inning here

I'm guessing, given a cool evening, Ace has 1-2 innings left. Hasn't had very good control tonight. Amazing how effective he is, even with marginal control.

GloryDayz 04-30-2014 07:29 PM

What they aren't asking is more important, if Hos plows him, what happens?

I don't have the rule in front of me, but I can't see any way you can penalize a guy for going straight to the plate. If the catcher's in the way...well, sucks to be him. It's up to the catcher to be out of the way, straddle the plate, sweep tag, whatever. I mean, 2B and SS do it all the time on steal attempts.

stonedstooge 04-30-2014 07:32 PM

NICE INNING

GloryDayz 04-30-2014 07:32 PM

Basically, after all that jabber-jawing, it's "the umpire gets to make any call he feels like"!

SPchief 04-30-2014 07:32 PM

There you go Ace

DJJasonp 04-30-2014 07:32 PM

Cannot wait!

Got my tix for Monday and Wednesday for Royals/Padres. Ventura and Shields!

NO RAINOUTS BETWEEN NOW AND MONDAY PLEASE! :)

I'm sure if a player starts making a habit of running over catchers they will look to some kind of penalty.

I caught for many years and teach the art to kids today, and I gotta say with there being SOOOO much left to chance with all of this catchers need to be better than ever because they're going to get hit.

If he feels rewarded then you didn't hit him hard enough.

I don't think getting your shin and knee taken out is much of a reward. Sticking that leg way out like he did is much more dangerous than using the whole body or both legs to block the plate.

stonedstooge 04-30-2014 07:40 PM

Don't think 2 runs will win it tonight

maybe not, but, the good news is toronto's bullpen has been bad so we should tack on a few more in the late innings.

mr. tegu 04-30-2014 07:42 PM

Come on Duffy.

lewdog 04-30-2014 07:43 PM

Jesus Duffy.

ChiTown 04-30-2014 07:43 PM

We might win a 2-0 game tonight. That would be a first to win a game not scoring more than 3 runs.

BigCatDaddy 04-30-2014 07:43 PM

Um out at 92?

-King- 04-30-2014 07:43 PM

Duffy is terrible these days. Just terrible.

Duffy already looking to blow it....

lewdog 04-30-2014 07:43 PM

Duffy putting the first batter on anyway he can.

mr. tegu 04-30-2014 07:44 PM

Oh Duffy. We want you to replace Chen but you have to get some control.

Mr. Laz 04-30-2014 07:44 PM

Somebody is going to need some roids now

chiefsfan987 04-30-2014 07:44 PM

probably should already have someone warming just in case.

Big Poppa Payne 04-30-2014 07:44 PM

Hopefully Duffy doesn't cost us this game like he did the other night.

KCUnited 04-30-2014 07:45 PM

I'm sure that won't mess with Duffy's head.

mr. tegu 04-30-2014 07:45 PM

Ideally Duffy will pitch at least two innings.

SPchief 04-30-2014 07:45 PM

Come on Duff

GloryDayz 04-30-2014 07:46 PM

Ouch!

stonedstooge 04-30-2014 07:46 PM

Duffy fighting the demons

Jesus just let Duffy pitch, F!

DJJasonp 04-30-2014 07:47 PM

this is trouble

Big Poppa Payne 04-30-2014 07:48 PM

Duffy sucks

Keep putting them on for ****'s sake.

SPchief 04-30-2014 07:48 PM

Seriously? He single handedly cost us the game last time he pitched. And now he's put on 2 people in a 2-0 game with no one out. Terrible is an understatement.

KCUnited 04-30-2014 07:48 PM

Thankfully Ned isn't getting into Duffy's head here.

gblowfish 04-30-2014 07:49 PM

So now they bring Crow, who Toronto pounded into very hard outs last night. Yikes.

TambaBerry 04-30-2014 07:49 PM

Well good game two on and crow comes in. Game over

Great Expectations 04-30-2014 07:49 PM

At least it's a short leash, how is duffs dome now?
