Tell TPaylor that there is now an NFL exception so teams don't have to wait until June 1st to make a cut. I believe it's 1 cut each year they can treat as a june 1st cut even though it isn't.

Well then the question could be: Would you rather save $3.5 million and get a mid-round pick (probably a 3rd at the highest), or save $7.5 million without draft compensation?

Honestly, if the $4 million could help get a Smith & Houston extension done, I think I'd go that route. We're going to have all 7 of our picks next year plus a couple of compensatory picks.

Houston is a known commodity and I think we need to pay the man.

They save another $4MM after June 1 - which may have played into their thinking.

The handwriting is on the wall for Flowers.

CB depth is still solid with Cooper, Smith, Gaines, Parker and Owens. They must get Smith and Houston resigned.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Some quick observations on the Kansas City Chiefs' first full-squad offseason practice: •The Chiefs went with veteran Frank Zombo instead of rookie Dee Ford in place of the absent Justin Houston as one of the starters at outside linebacker. Zombo started five games in place of the injured Houston last season and had two sacks and one interception. Marcus Cooper, the Chiefs' rookie of the year last season, started in place of Brandon Flowers at one of the cornerback spots. Houston and Flowers were missing from practice, which is voluntary. The only period during the offseason program with mandatory participation is the minicamp June 17 through June 19.
•The other new starters on defense were Allen Bailey (for the departed Tyson Jackson) at end, Joe Mays (for the departed Akeem Jordan) at linebacker and Husain Abdullah (for the departed Kendrick Lewis) at free safety.
•Left tackle Eric Fisher didn't participate in the team portion of practice and tight end Travis Kelce didn't participate at all. Fisher had offseason surgeries to repair a balky shoulder and for a sports hernia and participated in individual drills. Right tackle Donald Stephenson moved into Fisher's spot with Jeff Linkenbach starting in Stephenson's usual place. Kelce, who missed all of his rookie season because of a knee ailment, is not a starter but the Chiefs are hopeful he can play a lot and be a productive receiver .
•Sanders Commings is for now at least Abdullah's backup. But he showed free safety skills when he covered a lot of ground to intercept a Tyler Bray pass along the sideline.

What about last season?

Pre-2013 doesn't hold much water with the new regime.

He fractured his left clavicle on the first training camp practice for Rookies and QB's last July

Good news on Davis being a full participant after spraining his knee and breaking his leg back in January.

Easy to over-react to first day of OTA's.

I really hope Commings can push Abdullah at FS. I like Abdullah, but we need Commings to play well.

If I had to take a guess, to free up more room to get Houston a new contract.

Cut Flowers: Save 7.5M this year AND 7.5M next year. No extra draft pick.

That's pretty much how the playoffs work... I know we don't get there very often, but I would expect even the least knowledgeable fans would know that. We praise Alex Smith for havin his best game of the season in the playoffs, why not Flowers?

I remember Flowers one game where Manning ripped his asshole apart at Arrowhead stadium on the deep ball.

Alex Smith was also good during the season. Damn near elite the last half of it. Flowers was consistently bad during the season.

He's not holding out on shit. They're voluntary practices. If he doesn't attend the mandatory practices, THEN it's a holdout.

Flowers isn't showing up, either. Is it because he wants more money?

This is of no concern to us. Of course he wants an extension. He'll get one. In the meantime, he has one more year left on his rookie deal. That's how it works in the NFL. You get paid what's on your contract, and if you outperform it, you might get a lucrative extension.

Their plan is perfect if they're trying to land Mariota or Winston next year. They'll have a monster roster to plug their franchise QB into with tons of help defensively.

It's only perfect if they pick high enough in the draft to land one of those guys that are supposedly more worth it than Carr, or even Manziel or Bridgewater (through a trade up).

Otherwise they're going to get Chiefs'd so hard in the ass.

Mariota and Winston are easily better QBs than any that were available this year. You can make an argument for Petty and Hundley as well.
