Slow build... The episode ended stronger than it started, other than what felt like some rushing toward the end. Everything with McHale seemed wooden--even Mulder and Scully seemed less engaged with the show when he was on.

If this were a brand new pilot, it would have been quite meh. As the continuation of a favorite show from my pre-teen and teen years, it'll keep me watching.

Too many cliche notes, weird and nonsensical turns (Scully in the back of the limo sipping champagne?), moving too fast due to only 6 episodes. Mulder being removed from things for some time, then this story pops up and despite some pretty shaky evidence, he's all in. Just didn't do it for me. I'll keep watching, as it's the X Files and it's only 6 episodes, but I hope it gets much better.

I am getting the feeling that Mulder and Skully's child was somewhat "Alien".........

I guess it would.

That first episode was pretty much every conspiracy theory that's ever had a youtube vid crammed into one episode. It felt as if they just pulled from that.

I liked the tie in at the beginning with real world UFO mystery and the lore of the show...

Predarat 01-25-2016 09:23 AM

Good to have it back, a bit too much Star Wars Prequel Droney Political Dialogue, but other then that I will definitely watch the next episodes.

I watched some of the marathon on Chiller after the new episode aired.

I had forgotten how good the original was.

Didn't think ep 10.1 was bad at all. Not sure what the reviewer fuss was about. It's the ****ing x-files. What were people expecting?

I was involved with The X-Files back in the day and have no issues with the mini-series, though the episode tonight reminded me of The X-Men Files a bit...

Chieficus 01-26-2016 06:51 PM

Yeah, that second episode was much better. Less exposition, less Joel McHale, more paranormal investigation. Hopefully episode 3 continues the upward trend.

notorious 01-26-2016 10:10 PM

Damn good episode.

If you take out Mulder and Scully's age, this episode would fit right in with the old series.

Good execution.

so a friend told me that EP 1 was only half way caught on DVR due to football.
anyone have any idea if these episodes will be aired again?
I've held off watching so far as I'm still churning thru the original stuff. nice to know that when I'm ready I can only see half of the first episode. :cuss:

DaneMcCloud 01-27-2016 04:16 PM

I watched the first two episodes and as an X Files fan (I've had every season on DVD for at least 10 years), I loved it.

I was too excited to see Mulder, Scully and the rest to be nitpicky about plot points or "wooden" acting.

The first two episodes were certainly far better than the second movie and as long as that continues, I'll watch.

Hell, I'll probably watch anyway but I thought the first two were just fine and it's great to have it back on the air.

BlackHelicopters 01-27-2016 04:24 PM

Saw the gist two episodes. They were good, not great. Scully has held up well over time. If the rest of the episodes measure up, I can see a 12 show commitment .

Outdated? It was "information" gleaned from the source, at the time.

I FB's messaged one of her close friends after the post and even she responded "I don't know, I've never seen the show".

After a few minutes, she responded "yes, in the later episodes".

And again, when we're hosting play dates or at birthday parties or dropping off kids, people aren't usually in the "Look at me!" mode.

DeBerg asked if a couple characters were going to be on the show that is the subject of the OP. He didn't ask who you had play dates with or what you talked about a year ago.

If I was trying to 'piss on' people here, I would've taken Deberg to task for not googling it himself. 'Reyes X-files' and 'Annabeth X-files' BOTH pull up multiple articles within milliseconds. This would have taken Dane OR DeBerg 3 seconds to find.

Look at it this way, if someone asked 'how does Manning look for the SB' and I pulled up a story about eating lunch with Eli a year ago where Eli told me personally that Manning was going to retire before the 2015 season, are you suggesting no one would pass me shit about it?

MMXcalibur 01-27-2016 10:29 PM

Enjoyed the first two episodes immensely.

Went in after reading some of the reviews and thought "Uh oh...", but it's the same X-Files I grew up with. Hope they continue past this six-episode mini-series!

Yes, that was the episode that premiered the first week of the first year I was at flight school.

It was a good one.

NJChiefsFan 01-28-2016 10:25 PM

Ratings were very good. 13.5 million viewers. Some of that is from the NFCC, but at the same time, a lot of people didn't seem to know it was on or missed it because of the start time due to the game. For reference, the finale only had 12 million, as did the original premiere. IIRC, the highest episode in viewers was in season 4 or 5. "Leonard Betts" or "Herrenvolk". Some episode around there got like 19 million.

Episode 2 got around 9 million. Anything near there going forward is a great sign for a possible renewal.

I enjoyed both episodes. Much better than I feared reading some reviews. I didn't love the mythology and hope it turns out to not be true(for the sake of the original series mythology), but I liked them anyway. Too much was shown to the viewers when Mulder was not around proving alien existence in the conspiracy to make the all-government angle believable. The "it was all for show" doesn't wash for that reason alone. Hell the death of the syndicate puts a major flaw in this story. The bounty hunter would also be a disaster if viewed as a government man.

Anyway, thought the second episode was good, not great. Had a Fringe/X-Men feel to it. Not really interested in the William angle, never was, but it was necessary to address it. Hope the next episode is funny and they follow it with a legit scary episode. As always, the MOTW is probably what will allow the ratings to sink or swim.

Mennonite 01-29-2016 03:20 PM

I missed the first episode. I thought the second one was ok. Nice to see that it got decent ratings. Bring on the Monsters of the Week!

There were some swings and misses for sure but I liked it, especially once the actual concept of the episode became clear. I do think David and Gillian are trying a hair too hard in their banter but that's understandable.

I don't have any "inside" information regarding the future of the X-Files but I've read that Duchovny said he'd be down for 6 episodes per year, but not a full 24 episode season.

The interview occurred somewhere around the time his his 60's show about Manson aired ("Aquarius"), which to me was unwatchable, but was renewed for a second season.

I'd like to see 12 episodes, maybe six in the Fall and Six in the Winter, but I'm sure that everything hinges on Duchovny.

keg in kc 02-02-2016 04:18 PM

Dragged a bit at times, but it felt truest to classic x-files so far. Can't wait until we get back to the arc and see where we actually are going, after the theme of Mulder questioning and then rediscovering his want to believe.

Love that this show is back, even if it's just for a half dozen.

Next week looks like a true MOTW episode. I really think this will have a chance to really show how close they can get to the old shows feel.

3rd episode had the highest viewership of the night for any show, with 8.6 million. For reference "Gotham" for Fox in the same time slot was getting half of that.

Here is a link to it breaking world-wide ratings records.

That was hilariously weird... Seemed like they were almost poking fun at their original "Monster of the Week" concept. I really liked it. Rhys Darby put on one helluva performance, and completely stole the spotlight.

Scully is so very hot.................

KC_Connection 02-05-2016 03:05 AM

Now that was a good episode. Was representative of a lot of what I liked about the X-Files in its original run.

Jamie 02-05-2016 06:47 AM

Has anyone else felt like the new episodes have been a little flat and tv-looking? I haven't seen the show since it originally aired, but I remember it being more cinematic.
