So the Star Trek films all suck? TNG sucks?

List of your favorite films post 1977, please. Let's ****ing hash this out, limey.

No, thankfully most of them were quite well done, despite their apparent direct lineage.

For what? It's normal for things to progress.

Let me put it this way, if you just listened to Star Wars: Episode IV and didn't watch it, what would you think?

Hope he is a better receiver.

I hear Clay receives from R2D2 and gives it to C3po but lusts for a wookie.

Star Wars was nominated for Academy Awards for:

best sound
best music

And it WON THE ACADEMY AWARD FOR BEST SOUND EFFECTS

It WON A GOLDEN GLOBE FOR BEST SCORE.

Suck it, Donger.

Hammock Parties 05-14-2015 11:43 AM

Skywalker Sound was created from Star Wars.

It has subsequently been involved in 765 motion pictures.

Submit.

Sorry, not the score. It was brilliant. The script and acting? Yeah, not so much.

I'm sure it got broadcast on NPR because it sucked, Donger.

Regardless, tons of ****ing movies got made because of the success of Star Wars.

And not just science fiction films.

I'm sure it got broadcast on NPR because it sucked, Donger.

When this series was first broadcast on National Public Radio in 1981, it generated the largest response in the network's history: 50,000 letters and phone calls in a single week, an audience of 750,000 per episode, and a subsequent 40-percent jump in NPR listenership.

This landmark production, perhaps the most ambitious radio project ever attempted, began when Star Wars creator George Lucas donated the story rights to an NPR affiliate. Writer Brian Daley adapted the film's highly visual script to the special demands and unique possibilities of radio, creating a more richly textured tale with greater emphasis on character development. Director John Madden guided a splendid cast—including Mark Hamill and Anthony Daniels, reprising their film roles as Luke Skywalker and the persnickety robot See Threepio—through an intense 10-day dialogue recording session. Then came months of painstaking work for virtuoso sound engineer Tom Voegeli, whose brilliant blending of the actors' voices, the music, and hundreds of sound effects takes this intergalactic adventure into a realm of imagination that is beyond the reach of cinema.

What does the italicized part mean? Why was there a need to change from the original?

Yes, but not because of one singular film.

Skywalker Sound. ILM. A revolution that affected the entire industry!

Thanks to Star Wars.

Because it's radio. Dumbass.

Right. You take away the special effects and score, and Star Wars is crap. Hell, even Lucas thought it was going to be a disaster, IIRC. He underestimated the general public's propensity to be easily entertained by shiny objects.

The radio drama was highly successful, though. The novelizations sold like hotcakes, and there have been dozens upon dozens of other Star Wars novels and comic books.

It may be, crap, though, Donger. Maybe you're right.

But it's crap that revolutionized Hollywood.

What's this? High demand for Star Wars without special effects and score? ZOUNDS!

I don't know what an indie film is.

A film that can't afford the industry blessings of Star Wars.

Do you know the funny story behind that? Hint: Lemming MURDER!!!

Quote:

Even more influential was the 1958 Disney film White Wilderness, which won an Academy Award for Documentary Feature, in which staged footage was shown with lemmings jumping into certain death after faked scenes of mass migration. A Canadian Broadcasting Corporation documentary, Cruel Camera, found the lemmings used for White Wilderness were flown from Hudson Bay to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where they did not jump off the cliff, but were in fact forced off the cliff by the camera crew. Because of the limited number of lemmings at their disposal, which in any case were the wrong sub-species, the migration scenes were simulated using tight camera angles and a large, snow-covered turntable.

Oh, so good scripts and acting?

In58men 05-14-2015 12:29 PM

Chief games are like Indie movies. They don't get prime time games because of money issues.

Honestly, I don't understand this "horrible scripts and acting" thing, at least about the original trilogy. I realize its all subjective, but I believe the story was well paced and made sense and was interesting to the viewer. The acting was so-so, but it wasn't horrible...the original trilogy was NOT all about special effects, thought they were a huge part.

...episodes 1,2 and 3 however...THAT was total shit.

I'll admit, these two surprised me:

Oscar Award for BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR Alec Guiness
Oscar Award for BEST WRITING George Lucas

I thought Guinness was awful. You could just tell that he hated what he was doing and that it was beneath him. And, it's Guinness, GoChiefs.

The one for Lucas must be a joke and/or a bribe.

Which is why he went on to appear in both sequels, right?

Which is why he negotiated a deal for 2% of the film's profits before signing his first contract, right?

Ragged Robin 05-14-2015 09:08 PM

wait... why is the video in the OP a youtube video of someone shittily video taping a youtube video??

Pablo 05-14-2015 09:11 PM

I've watched part of a couple Star Wars movies. They were fun I guess. I'll never watch Star trek. The twenty minutes or so I caught were enough for me.
