We still won. I'll take Maclin for a 3rd pick 100/100 times. Best receiver we've had since maybe Otis Taylor.

This totally sucks man, especially after we had to give up a home game to London last year. The NFL said "Thanks Clark" by bending him over a desk and sticking a stapler up his ass.

So Roger Goodell still uses staples. Is that what you're saying?

Yeah...and that 3rd round pick is getting paid $55 million. It's not an equal trade.

On one hand I want to say..."how could you not dock the Jets last year"...but obviously this was a full-on sway for Maclin. They must have really gone after him...given the unprecedented loss of draft picks was upheld.

Meh..he was worth a 3rd. He was a top 20 pick and perfect for this system...nicely played. It worked out...

The only sketchy part is Maclin probably wanted to leave Philly and rejoin Reid..even before the tampering happened. There was a lot of locker room friction going on...that should have been taken into account.

There must have been overt tampering uncovered...not just veiled suggestion. It's not cool...as I would be pissed if the Raiders lured Peters away by this tactic. Kind of a black eye for a franchise that obviously pretends to be stand up and ethical.

Maybe the Sanders incident influenced this...

Nope. He openly said in an interview that he loves the Philly community and really wanted to stay. Said he was looking for the Eagles and Chip Kelly to give him any kind of reason to stay. A phone call...anything. He said Chip and the Eagles weren't reaching out, meanwhile he was receiving calls from Alex Smith, Chase Daniel, and Andy Reid. So, he came to KC.

If they are going to dock a team for luring a player away...that pick should be awarded to the team that lost it's player. The Eagles got shafted...

I disagree. What if the team in question had no intention to re-sign with his current team?

Besides that, it would completely mess up the Comp picks awarded by the league each year.

Then the comp pick should be awarded the same year as the tampering....which in this case wasn't uncovered until the following year...so **** it. Maclin went down when KC needed him most...Karma is a bitch.

It's not justification....KC didn't have a WR1 after cutting Bowe....not that he was a #1 WR in 2014. They would have had to burn a high pick on his replacement in hopes it panned out after a few seasons. Reid's system takes a while to grasp. Maclin was a known product...and knew the offense. It's why they aggressively went after him...must have weighed the situation and thought it was worth the risk. They got caught and have to pay up now...I'm pretty sure they didn't think it would cost them a 3rd round pick.

It's semantics but it would have cost a draft pick either way to fill the void. Reid got the player he wanted. Good WR's, in their prime, are rarely let go...Sanders being an exception and KC got burned on the deal.

All I'm saying is:

It's been seven years since Maclin was drafted.

7.....

Years.

Amnorix 04-19-2016 07:09 AM

Wow! Goodell's system of justice is arbitrary and unfair?! He drops penalties that are completely disproportionate to anything done before? I'm completely stunned to learn this!!

Years. :)

TomBarndtsTwin 04-19-2016 07:42 AM

Well, sucks, but you do the crime, you do the time. At least the Chiefs were stand up about it and admitted they did it, rather than trying to lie about it and hide behind a bunch of bullshit, like some other organizations have been known to do . . . . .

The penalty is disproportionate to the offense, but whatever. F**K Goodell.

Hopefully if the NFL ever asks the Chiefs for any 'favors' again, like the 'home' international game, Clark will grow a set of balls and tell Roger to go f**k himself.

Is there a rule against talking to and signing a player that hasn't signed yet outside of the tampering window?

The Franchise 04-19-2016 09:52 AM

Quote:

Only last year, for instance, the Jets were fined a mere $100,000 for owner Woody Johnson's meddling with cornerback Darrelle Revis when he publicly proclaimed he'd love to have him back.

No wonder Maclin said he was "shocked in a way" when he learned about the initial ruling.

"It's been a weird situation, but I'm happy where I'm at," he said. "I wouldn't change it for the world, and everything else will take care of itself."

Asked if he understood the specific transgression, Maclin said, "Yeah, but that stays within this building" and later added, "We have to take responsibility for what we do."

So the exemplary Chiefs are being made an example of, and so be it.

RunKC 04-19-2016 10:03 AM

Clark needs to push the envelope that this asshole can't be apart of the process for punishment.

It should have been a ****ing warning that got appealed. Send a goddamn email to the entire league stating that they aren't ****ing around with this anymore and the next team will be punished.

Your schtick is old and tired.

The team's recent success got you and Claynus chased out of here because all you know how to do is to find the negative in every situation regarding the Chiefs. Talk about low hanging fruit.

The franchise is arguably in the best shape it has ever been in - accept it instead of bringing up Chicken Little/Debbie Downer arguments all the time. Do that, or piggyback on some other franchise's perceived success which is easy to do.......

How do you know that this didn't happen? How do you know that a memo wasn't sent out that said, "We know this is happening and this is your warning. Stop or we will penalize you"?

Just because DT said he was going to Chicago, doesn't mean that the Bears representatives talked to him. A player can say anything they want. It doesn't become tampering until the representative talks to the player or makes comments in the media about a player not on his team.

Too bad you had to cheat for one playoff win in 20+ years. If you're gonna harp on the Broncos (who did not cheat, but Al Davis made a big stink about a hypothetical situation) then I'm gonna point out your teams cheating too.

However, if you all drop the Broncos cheated crap, you'll never hear me mention your teams cheating.

The point is, as I clearly ****ing stated, that the Chiefs got hosed in this, because they always get hosed.

If you believe acquiring Maclin was worth getting hosed/winning a wild card, then who am I to argue your happiness?

Weigh the scales however you see fit.

But remember this; never once did I imply that picking up Maclin was a bad move, nor did I disparage YOUR team's success.

And yes, YOUR franchise IS in the best shape it has seen in a long time.

We did cheat, but it still doesn't explain the highest tampering penalty in the history of the NFL.

Penalty doesn't fit the crime .... at least until now.

From now on tampering is going to cost draft picks, apparently.

They're not cheaters. They didn't rub Vaseline on their uniforms or circumvent the salary cap. what they did was no different than Rex Ryan sitting in Bart Scott's driveway until midnight of free agency years ago.
