Looked to me like the punter tripped over the guy lying on the ground. Probably shouldn't have been a penalty at all.

Michigan, Oklahoma, Florida State... all would have been more competitive against Alabama than Washington.

Washington had the better resume to get into the CFP, but in terms of talent, Michigan, Oklahoma and FSU are better IMO.

I agree. I also felt Washington wasnt even the best team in the PAC 12 by the end of the year. USC wasnt deserving of the playoff ,but theyd whip Washington again if they had the chance.

Glad you enjoyed...as an OSU fan, I'll be the first to admit they had no business in the playoff. Penn State would have been a better representative.

They will be back next year, stronger and better.

Congrats to Clemson.

That did not take long
Not even two hours after the Peach Bowl ended and Washington's end zone is nearly erased. The building crew here is working through the night to get ready for the Falcons game tomorrow.

8 teams?

If today is any indication, the 2 team BCS format is best.

#1 vs. #2.

Forget the rest.

Agreed.

Would it be possible to give the champions of each power 5 conference an automatic bid then give 3 wild cards? I don't watch the most college football, but am wondering if a system like that would be viable? IMO, I feel like that would prove that winning one's conference has a weight to it, while still giving some room for teams to sneak in that have virtually identical resumes to those in the top 4.

No way to tell who of a 12-1 Clemson, 11-1 Ohio State, and 12-1 Washington team deserved their shot at Bama. With the 4 team playoff we know which of those teams deserves that chance.

Not Washington. The one very good team they played, USC, crushed them in Seattle. USC was a whole different team once they took out Browne and put Darnold at QB.

I can't agree with any format that leaves out a power conf champ.

Should be at least 6 teams. All conf champs and one at large team.

No. Alabama was a consensus #1. If 5 teams have a good argument that they should be #1, then the system messed up. But as it is, every single team had a reason to not be in the playoffs.

I only care if legit top teams miss the boat. If any team misses on the bubble, they should have taken care of business earlier on.

tk13 01-01-2017 01:57 AM

I think with as many conferences as there are, 8 teams wouldn't be terrible, but there'd still be a huge fight over the 8 seed, just like there is over #4 now. You're just kicking the can down the road.

More importantly, would there be as many upsets? College football doesn't feel quite as upset prone as basketball. Would you be playing a bunch of extra games for nothing?

BryanBusby 01-01-2017 02:19 AM

Why have 5 power conferences if there isn't a mathematical probability each champion can't be represented in a tournament to determine the best team?

ILChief 01-01-2017 08:12 AM

I always wanted a playoff, but since it has become a reality, I'm less interested in college football than I have ever been. I don't know why, as I know it's a better system. Maybe it's nostalgia and not liking what used to be the big games like the Rose and Orange Bowls get no coverage. Maybe it is Alabama fatigue. I know the formerly major bowls host the playoff games, but I couldn't tell you which "bowls" were played yesterday. Maybe it's the playoff games being played on New Year's Eve. I don't know if going to 8 teams makes it more or less appealing

Big 12 isn't a power conference in football.

FloridaMan88 01-01-2017 10:38 AM

The FCS has a 24 team playoff that balances an emphasis on winning your conference championship (participating conference winners get an automatic bid to the playoffs) with the opportunity to still make the playoffs if you have a good overall resume but don't win your conference (with 14 at large bids).

Also the FCS playoffs don't have 30+ days between games like the FBS playoff games do (from the end of the regular season to the playoff games), and the FCS National Championship Game takes place two days before the FBS National Championship Game does.

Why can't the FBS replicate the FCS playoff format?
