First episode is pretty damn good.
|
Hell of an episode visually. Seems like it followed the game to a T. Now we gotta wait another week.
|
Hell yeah!!!!
|
It was good. I felt they hinted towards the infection a little too much with that intro scene, would’ve been better to keep it vague instead of having a panel from decades ago discuss the possibility of fungi controlling people. They padded a bit but it was fine, nice to see that backstory, and they ended it on the place where I figured they’d end it on as that’s the first major revelation of the game. Loved the intro even though it felt Game of Thrones but the fact that they did the same guitar track, ****ing A plus. Looks like they’ll give more backstory to Bill and his partner, but will follow the DLC for Ellie’s backstory. Super hyped.
|
This is going to be amazing. I was nervous, excited, and it's everything I've hoped it would be already. Wow...I can't wait for Sunday.
Perfect end to the first episode...and yeah I teared up. |
It's really difficult to look at the girl depicting Ellie without wondering if he she's a trisomy 21 victim because she's that ugly.
|
10/10, hell of a start for this series.

Lesbian? Never believed that at one instance before hearing her speak |
Had never even heard of the video game.
But that episode was awesome. Cannot wait for more. |

First episode was confirmation that they're sticking to the source material.
Not that I ever had any doubts about this. GOAT video game story mode + HBO + creator of Chernobyl = guaranteed classic |
Great ****ing episode I'm hooked

So will these dip****s FINALLY ****ing learn that if you just make an honest attempt to stay faithful to the source material good things will happen for your series.
|
Never played the game but great first episode. Fox tried something similar with the Passage book series a few years back and totally effed it up. I don’t think it made it to 10 episodes before being cancelled. I always thought it would have made a better HBO series anyway.
|
I never heard of or played the game but I watched this last night and found it funny where I could actually see where each part of it was a game mission... Get money for battery... find out battery has been sold to someone else... break into someone else's hideout and steal battery.
|
If these hollywood writers could just stick to source material it would be better. Its always a ****ing shame when they think they are "better" writers than the Original Source.
"Dur we need to mix in some complex dumb shit that doesn't ****ing fit" |

Absolutely loved the first episode and the commentary after the credits. Cannot wait for the next episode.
They captured the sets beautifully. Look very much like the game and they did a great job with the cast - very believable. :thumb: |

I'll probably play the game after the season is over. Probably my favorite game of all time.
|
So I've never played the game.
Is that why this has the feel of just another zombie show? Because this seems like a paint by numbers zombie show. Tortured protagonist w/ a young ward who holds the key to a 'cure' that he has to protect and guide to...wherever. And along the way he'll encounter sorta episodic 'hazards' that make the job seem far more complicated than it appeared at first glance... So we just sit back for 10 episodes and wait for the twist that yields a second season. Rinse/repeat. Don't get me wrong, these are a couple of great actors and the visuals seem like they're going to be excellent. But this strikes me as a path VERY heavily traveled to this point so I guess I'm just a little perplexed by why this should be seen as a world apart from what we've seen before. |

Because the beauty of the game at the time was that it WASN'T some traditional zombie game. You didn't run around with a shotgun blasting hoards of zombies in the face. The game was a story driven, tactical "stealth" game. Shooting guns, for the most part, made shit that much more difficult. The idea was to sneak around. Rather than a shotgun blast to the face, you'd throw a can off to the distance to distract them so you could sneak by in the dark. You spent much of your effort NOT making a sound, and instead attacking with tact. Not that you COULDN'T go guns blazing, but you were often limited in ammo and like i said before, you'd attract the attention of more "zombies" thus making it that much more difficult. The game was a success because the suspense and thrill was built into the gameplay, and the story itself really made you feel for the characters. You'd wait by a doorway as a "clicker" slowly shuffled about, hoping not to get caught. How they'll translate that tension into film? No idea. Im only halfway through the first episode. |
On a side note: You know what game would make an EXCELLENT series?
Mother****ing Red Dead Redemption. |

Dude that game was outstanding. If you have time to game at all, give it a go. |
I really enjoyed the cameo that Geralt from The Witcher made in the games.

Ok, If you have not heard of this game or partially played it, PLEASE go back and play this game. The gameplay, let alone, the story is absolutely beyond words. It is the most incredible game I have ever played and so glad I played this game all the way through. The only other games that compare are God of War and the entire Uncharted series. Guy's, do yourselves a favor and play this game. PS. Thank us later after you play/finish this incredible game :thumb:

Even with out the game knowledge/experience, it was a solid first episode. And I do enjoy a good zombie story. |

So far this is a great adaptation. I trust HBO.
I think calling this “another zombie movie” is unfair. The evolution of fungus and all it’s effects has barely even been revealed. Plus, most disaster movies, the disaster is a situation. The real danger is how people treat each other and do whatever is necessary to survive. I’m looking forward to how they manifest both. Add my vote to the “you must play this game” crowd. Naughty dog is my favorite developer, well, tied with Rockstar. But the writing and craftsmanship of uncharted and TLOU is top notch. TLOU was harder to beat IMO than any uncharted game. |
Episode 2 was fantastic.

Heard all the rave, then saw it was another ****ing zombie show. Exhausting. Sad. Would have watched it, but more zombie bullshit.

Finally watched and damn they followed the game to a t that first episode. Excited for the next one.

But, after seeing these posts, I went back and gave it another shot. It is a good flick, looking forward to watching episode 2 |
I see why Pedro wears a full-face helmet in the Mandalorian. He is kind or an ugly ****er. Pretty damn good actor though.

The detail of this world is great. They've put alot of care into this so far.

Looks promising. Never played the game but checked it out on YouTube. Only watched the first 12 minutes of the game and it was very, very close to the HBO series. As far as the game, too slow paced for my taste.

This puts that to shame though. |
So the race swapping just doesn't bother you guys anymore?

I loved all 3 games. Another game that should be adapted is Mass Effect. Amazon studios has the rights to that, and with the success of Last of Us, it would behoove Amazon to get moving on Mass Effect. |
No one gives a shit if it’s good

I don't support that shit. |
So anyway..
I watched the second episode and it was pretty tense. I’ve only played the first hour or so of the game so I was shocked at how difficult the fungus zombies were to deal with. And that was only two of them. Then you’ve gotta deal with the hive mind as well.
Spoiler!

I would've liked to see him or Tess shiv the clicker in the neck/head. Given that was the only way you could quickly dispose of them in the game.

I've played both. Way to not spoiler tag it for others though. And she isn't a lesbian, she is with a guy. And that's not what the story of the second game is at all.
And that spelling of his name is incredible mister scholar. |
